UPDATE August 2021: My personal challenge for 50/90 was not necessarily to reach 50 songs, but to improve the speed at which I wrote lyrics AND music. The plan was to only post a (non-skirmish) song with its accompanying demo, even though that would likely be a phone app one-take. I just honestly haven't had the spoons, so my new approach is try to post WITH the chords, then I can always go back and add demos when I have a bit more energy and focus. It's still progress on my ultimate goal of growth as a musician, so I'll call it a win. Hopefully, an extra shipment of spoons shows up before October 1, and I can find the energy for more!
2021: I'll have a slow start due to a business competition, but plan to be around more after July.
Hey, everyone! I'm giving this a go again. I've done FAWM 5 or 6 times and came away with "wins" on all but 1 of them, which really just means I threw away the internal editor and let the thoughts flow. I'm sassy, honest, and sarcastic, so that often means a NSFW rating. I love to swear, so if it offends you, this is probably the wrong page to be on.
I've actually spent the past few years healing many aspects of my relationship with music. I'm doing this for fun and as a personal challenge to grow creatively, so not everything I write is autobiographical, Sometimes it's just a story.
NOTE: Comments regarding length of song and "are you going to put music with that?" are a waste of time. I don't care if my songs are ever on the radio, so I make them as long as I want them to be. As for music, it's me and an iPod voice memo app. If I get any better with the guitar and/or ukulele (hasn't happened in six years, sooooo...), they may make an appearance, but you'll need to use your imagination otherwise!
Last but not least, I'm going to leave you with this quote by Dave Grohl, who has influenced my life more than he may ever realize and who I really hope I have the opportunity to thank in person one day: "I was supposed to just join another band and be a drummer the rest of my life. I thought that I would rather do what no one expected me to do. I enjoy writing music and I enjoy trying to sing, and there's nothing anyone can really do to discourage me."
Let's find 90 ways to do what no one expects us to do and don't let anyone discourage you. Rock on!!!
