Liner Notes:

I wrote this a couple of weeks ago! I decided then to my taste it was the best song i have done this 50/90 and that it would be the lead off track for my album, which will come out in a few weeks. Suddenly realised i was running out of time to post it! so here ya go!

Lyrics:

V1 Like a first day sketch
like a homeless wretch
Ignored then just cast aside

Any crumb will do
To help see me through
To conquer and then divide

C I’m pursued by different wolves
Now I've left the woods
They are just salesman with smiles
With their best consumer goods

If you think I am old now
You should have seen me before
Come on and hold me
And dance me round the floor

V2 Like a ball without a chain
Or a Lion without his mane
Full of blinding indignation

My hearts like stone
I Feel so all alone
Cant you even see my desperation

C I’m pursued by different wolves
Now I've left the woods
They are just salesman with smiles
With their best consumer goods

If you think I am old now
You should have seen me before
Come on and hold me
And dance me round the floor

B I just don’t seem to fit
Been played like a battered saxophone
The worth seeps out of me
Like porous limestone

C I’m pursued by different wolves
Now I've left the woods
They are just salesman with smiles
With their best consumer goods

If you think I am old now
You should have seen me before
Come on and hold me
And dance me round the floor

If you think I am old now
You should have seen me before
Come on and hold me
And dance me round the floor

If you think I am old now
You should have seen me before
Come on and hold me
And dance me round the floor

I was immediately besotted with that banjo and cello (?) combo. It sets a fantastic tone for the song. Some of those lines are brilliant. 'If you think I am old now / You should have seen me before... dance me round the floor' and then 'The worth seeps out of me / Like porous limestone'. Amazing write, John! Can totally see why you'd earmark this as an album opener. Will it be on Bandcamp etc? I'll look out for it if so.

Ahh I can see why this one's your favorite! The banjo is super clean and catchy, love the lyrics and vocal delivery! Nice album lead off!

This is a whole package of wow. It is very moving. The descriptive words are so clever and paint me a picture to watch as I listen. I could listen to the banjo picking all day. Love your vocals here, it has a strong emotional feel - definitely worked on me. I love this song!

Totally not what I was expecting when I hit play. Bela Fleck and Tom Waits had a baby it seems. COOL BEANS!
That banjo is the best. And you can never go wrong with cellos
That chorus... <3

Well, if you think it's your best, I have to listen. And it's certainly a wonderful tune - and banjo!
Incredible lyrics, and the vocal delivery is so been-around-the-block and sincere. I dig this one a lot!

What fabulous images throughout. I love “played like a battered saxophone” and the chorus is fantastic. I like the contrast and juxtaposition of the happy feeling music of banjo with the melancholy of the cello along with the gravel of the vocals and depth of emotion in the lyric. Really brilliant!

This has so-o-o much character to it. The protagonist's point of view is told by the music and your voice. Besides I'm a sucker for banjo. Wink
I have to wonder is the line "Now I've left the words"? It sounds like you sing "woods" which rhymes with "goods". Sorry, I got the proofreading gene from my dear Mother.
Great job on this one. I hear why it's your favorite.

You've created such a great groove with the banjo, bass, and drums. The lyric is so dense, jammed with great lines. I love that chorus. The whole thing makes me happy. The strings are a masterful touch, simple and effective. I got goose bumps. Super vocal performance on this one, too

Great lyric, I really like the chorus. This paints such a vivid picture in my mind. Nice production, really helps emote the lyric. Enjoyed this!
