Liner Notes:

Inspired by [@donnadevine] 's song The Church of Bone and Sorrow. Bones/church hit home with me and the following developed.

Lyrics:

(This is) Where We Lay the Bones

Here we lay the bones
When the rest has gone to dirt
A somber celebration
That helps to heal the hurt

Elders and the young
Who have passed beyond today
We prepare, what you say they were
With respect this sacred way

Lay the bones, lay the bones
Back to dirt, and history stones
(On the earth, in the earth)
This is where we lay the bones

From the earth we all take
Return home to forsake
What was needed since our birth
Is given back to the earth

When the journey here is done
And we all go home
Then when all has gone to dirt
This is where we lay the bones

Lay the bones, lay the bones
Back to dirt, and history stones
(On the earth, In the earth)
This is where we lay the bones
Lay the bones
Lay the bones

It's both somber and reflective. Death is natural and this taps into that message. The hook is fantastic, and you used it really well. Nice write.

Yes, the final resting place. In our town we have one and it's called Prospect Hill. I think I might have written a song about it.
