The Legions Of The Dead
Post date:
Liner Notes:
I've been listening to the new Iron Maiden album, so thought I'd have a go at writing lyrics that could be for that genre of metal
Lyrics:
The Legions Of The Dead
(Verse 1)
Thrown straight into the battlefield
Blood, thunder, and death
Screams echo in the night
Until they run out of breath
(Verse 2)
Bleeding out on a battlefield
Sky scarlet and grey
Smoke suffocates the air
On this, the very last day
(Chorus)
Join the legions of the dead
Gauntlets and breastplates, helmets on heads
Join the legions of the dead
Kevlar and gas masks, helmets on heads
(Verse 3)
Rotting slow on the battlefield
Leisurely slow decay
Held in place by cruel barbwire
Unmoved as the bullets spray
(Verse 4)
Forever haunting the battlefield
Blood, thunder, and death
Screams pierce through the silence
Until you run out of breath
(Chorus)
Join the legions of the dead
Gauntlets and breastplates, helmets on heads
Join the legions of the dead
Kevlar and gas masks, helmets on heads
(Bridge)
You’ve been fitted with your big lace boots
Last boots that you’ll wear
Handed out your bullet proofs
Told ‘No expense spared’
You’ve been equipped with your helmet
Last helmet you’ll wear
Climbed into your bullet proofs
Thrown into the Devil’s lair
(Chorus)
Join the legions of the dead
Gauntlets and breastplates, helmets on heads
Join the legions of the dead
Kevlar and gas masks, helmets on heads
(Chorus – more intense)
Join the legions of the dead
Gauntlets and breastplates, helmets on heads
Join the legions of the dead
Kevlar and gas masks, helmets on heads

Certainly has that mayhem feel to the lyric and the right title! Chorus and repeat, yup sounds like metal!
This puts you right into the mayhem of battle. Your words conjure up the gritty bloody gore of war and loyal soldiers. I liked the details like lace up you boots - these are the last boots you’ll wear. Great job
This is definitely Maiden's sort of metal, with Bruce raising the standard high while belting out this tale of military derring-do. Then when the adrenaline wears off, you realise that it's a protest song...
Nice writing!
