What: We will have a one hour skirmish to write to a prompt.*

Host: @vivalarayna

I intentionally came up with a lighthearted prompt to try to break myself out of the past week's apocalyptic writing streak. I suppose break up songs are progress? I mean, breaking up with a single person is probably better than breaking up with all 9f humanity. Anyway, I'm sure many of us have found ourselves in relationships where one person was growing up and the other... wasn't.

Lyrics:

VERSE 1
You've told that joke
One hundred times before
But something about one-oh-one
Has me looking at the door
And you're wearing
That ugly shirt again
You think it's funny
I think it's inane

CHORUS
I can't laugh with you
So I might as well laugh at you
And then laugh at myself
For thinking you were ever cool
The joke's on me
Falling in love with a fool
Now I'm laughing on my own
Because we're through

VERSE 2
Another night of binging
The same dumb TV shows
Another fight about those losers
You call bros
No more letting
My annoyance fester
This queen needs a king
Not a childish Jester

CHORUS
I can't laugh with you
So I might as well laugh at you
And then laugh at myself
For thinking you were ever cool
The joke's on me
Falling in love with a fool
Now I'm laughing on my own
Because we're through

BRIDGE
It wasn't that long ago
I found you so amusing
Now I find my life choices
More than a bit confusing
Your antics no longer
Leave me beguiled
I need someone who's
Young at heart
Just… not a man-child

VERSE 3
So go enjoy your
Video games
I'll enjoy not seeing your face
In my picture frames
Maybe someday
You'll choose to evolve
Doesn't really matter
You're not my problem to solve

CHORUS
I can't laugh with you
So I might as well laugh at you
And then laugh at myself
For thinking you were ever cool
The joke's on me
Falling in love with a fool
Now I'm laughing on my own
Because we're through

Ouch...this one is richly detailed and hits a bit close to home. Maybe I should up my game before my wife is laughing on her own

That burns! So many great lines and a great way to go for the prompt!

Really good lyrics! "I'll enjoy not seeing your face/In my picture frames". and "You're not my problem to solve."

Excellent writing! Hard and cutting stuff, but most of us have felt this way before. Solid verses and chorus, I really like the "laugh at you so might as well laugh at myself." All of the verses have such great imagery - looking at the door, dumb TV shows, enjoy your video games.

OOo a very bitter one, nicely done. I like jester, king Queen bit! It's so true in relationships of course it's a signpost of reality!

Pointed and perfectly written. You take us on a journey into a failed relationship where it is clearly this other persons’ fault. You do a great job with developing their character. Love the chorus and how you use the concept of laugh with insight into the relationship and confidence about moving on!

Great use of the prompt! The lyrics mean business, I like that a lot. This is a great look at a failed relationship, when you love something about someone but you grow and they never really do. I have not had that in my relationship but I have seen in it quite a few of my friends. There is some really smart writing in here, I really love "You're not my problem to solve", that line is genius!
