THEME/PROMPT: CHANGE OF PLANS

Did a little self-skirmish this evening. This prompt got me thinking about how life doesn't always go to plan. Just because someone has the potential for "success" (or at least what we conventionally define as such) doesn't mean they'll actually have the opportunity to achieve that success. They may face barriers and bear responsibilities that others may never see or understand. But sometimes that eventually turns into some awesome. Different, but perhaps even better than the original hoped-for "success".
Lyrics:
VERSE 1
Go to a fancy college
Get that nice degree
Maybe even pledge
A cool sorority
Summer internship
As a law clerk
Start building up
That all-important network
VERSE 2
Fall in love with
The son of my boss
You can bet ten bucks
That he played lacrosse
Have a picture perfect
Fairytale wedding
Oh, you know where
This story's heading
CHORUS
But stop the record
Freeze the frame
There's a flag on the field of
This life game
I wasn't dealt a pair
Of aces in this hand
That would have been nice
But there's been a change of plans
VERSE 3
Up at 5am
To go for a run
Working nine to five
Then happy hour fun
Locked in that shiny
Corporate tower
Never knowing
My own power
VERSE 4
Two point five kids
Who all run track
Mercedes and McMansion
In a cul-de-sac
Yeah, I could have
Had it all
Behind that gated community wall
CHORUS
But stop the record
Freeze the frame
There's a flag on the field of
This life game
I wasn't dealt a pair
Of aces in this hand
That would have been nice
But there's been a change of plans
BRIDGE
Instead I had to grow up quick
That responsibility
Can make a person sick
So much tragedy
Felt like I was cursed
So much sacrifice
When do I get put first
Saw opportunities
Slip right through my fingers
Won't lie - some bitterness
It still lingers
But I've made peace
That I'll never change the past
I'm excited for the future
Who knows
It may be a blast
VERSE 5
And in reflection
It hasn't all been bad
I've lived adventures
My friends have never had
I've had the freedom
To let my soul sing
May never be a millionaire
But I'm still rich in living
CHORUS
But stop the record
Freeze the frame
There's a flag on the field of
This life game
I wasn't dealt a pair
Of aces in this hand
That would have been nice
But there's been a change of plans

Yup thats like most reality! Accept for those TV shows which make my skin crawl, or worse we try and wish it for our kids, nicely said!
You know, the closest I ever got to the "perfect" life, I was completely miserable. These lyrics are really relatable and truthful. Nice work!
