Songwriting/Music: Jack Pines

Liner Notes:

Today, I travelled from Big Chute to Port of Orillia on the Trent Severn Waterway. You can hear the sound of the engine in the background.

Lyrics:

Jack Pines
The jack pines stand tall,
Tom Thompson had painted them himself.
The jack pines stand tall,
They are the companions of the lake.

When day emerges from darkness
The heavy mist blankets the lake
When day emerges from darkness
A mystery, translucent, yet opaque.

The loon softly calling from afar
Is answered by the lapping waters’ edge
The loon softly calling from afar
Echoed in the trees upon the ledge.

On the rocks beside, a canoe is posed
Ahead with dreams to fulfill
On the rocks beside, a canoe is posed
Promises of waters undisclosed.

Beads of water lift up from the blade
The canoe glides serenely on the glass
Beads of water lift up from the blade
As if on a predetermined path.

What a great journey you took me on, loons calling and all. Well done.

Terrifically rustic feel; somehow your simple ukulele (?) brings the outdoors into my home with me—and, perhaps more to the point, gives me a stron gurge to get out there and see and experience this for myself!
