We Follow The Old Ways

Simon aka @LyricSlinger approached @Gwyn Jones and I to put music to and sing his duet 'We Follow the Old Ways'. Gwyn wrote and performed the music and I sang my parts, mixed/mastered it. Et voila - a three way effort!
Gwyn: Simon tells us...This lyric was partly inspired by the real-life story of a fishing boat that sank near where my uncle lives in Ireland. My uncle was part of the rescue effort organised by locals and retrieved one of the bodies. There was only one person who survived. I don't know if he had family waiting for him but thinking about that led to this song.
Lyrics:
WE FOLLOW THE OLD WAYS
Written by Simon Wright
Music written and performed by Gwyn Jones
Sung By Georgie Cooper and Gwyn Jones
We set sail from a little village pier
Heading to the great big sea
Going with the flow
We follow the old ways
I said goodbye without a tear
Laughing, you just waved at me
Going with the flow
We follow the old ways
Bring the nets in
Set sail for a safe port
Ride the waves home
Loved ones
Wait for us there, we know
Days at sea to catch our haul
Dredging luckies from the deep
Lighthouse flicker glow
We follow the old ways
Days away from your side
Feel like years to me
Lighthouse flicker glow
We follow the old ways
Holding course against the storm
Batten everything down
Seconds seem so slow
But we follow the old ways
Holding hands upon the sand
Heartbeats the only sound
Seconds seem so slow
We follow the old ways
Bring the nets in
Set sail for a safe port
Ride the waves home
Loved ones
Wait for us there, we know
The storm called to take our lives
Breaking bones on the rocks
I tasted its bitterness
But clung to the sweetness of us
All hands lost apart from me
I swam to the shore
Wild did the wind blow
But we follow the old ways
My scan pinned close to my heart
Our baby on the way
Wild did the wind blow
We follow the old ways
All hands lost apart from me
They sank under the waves
Wild did the wind blow
But we follow the old ways
My scan pinned close to my heart
No words can truly say
Wild did the wind blow
We follow the old ways
Bring the nets in
Set sail for a safe port
Ride the waves home
Loved ones
Wait for us there, we know
Bring the nets in
Set sail for a safe port
Ride the waves home
Loved ones
Wait for us there, we know

epic storytelling . makes me long for more survival ballads. this one compares well to one of my favorites cold missouri waters..im linking it because if you havent heard it, im sure you will love it, as you always appreciate a good song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dztj4X3fQps&ab_channel=Pasalaqcua
Stellar arrangement and great storytelling. A powerful 3-way collab that hits all the right notes!
From another time and such great storytelling. I love that it is the both of you-always together! Such a fine song!
[Shaking my head] You guys...
This is just SO GOOD and you know it! What a terrific story from LyricSlinger--and anything with either of you two singing just really grabs me.
Curious: Logistically, how are you guys doing the vocal collaborations? Do you live in the same area or are you using some kind of website or doing email? Marthie did a vocal of one of my songs last year and I just emailed her an MP3 of the tracks only and she emailed back her vocal only--which I inserted back into my DAW project. I'm wondering how you guys do it, because you're doing it regularly. I'm seeing services where they are doing this "live" (!) using technology to somehow adjust for the "lag" time. Anyway--another great song, you guys!
first duet i have heard this 5090. 3 way collab is cool, everyone brings so much to the song, epic song with a great folk-ballad feel. i love the big lift in the chorus. sad story well told, all aspects of it top notch!
A huge thanks to Georgie and Gwyn for creating such epic music around my lyrics. It's perfect.
I want to thank @Colgoo as well as it was Colleen who commented to me that Georgie and Gwyn would be perfect for this song. You were right!
So so good. The story told so well, the music and singing are top shelf. The pace at which Georgie and Gwyn pump out high quality songs is mind numbing. This one is a huge winner.
Wow, this is an incredible collaboration. I feel like I don't come across many duets in 50/90 or FAWM they feel extra special when I do. The story is engaging and very moving, the arrangement elevates it quite nicely. This is a truly fantastic song, well done to all of you!
This is every bit of wonderful magic that I knew it would be when I suggested you as the perfect collaborators for Simon’s powerful lyrics. Love, love, love!!!!
Who doesn't love a good seafaring tale?!?! Loved the feel of this track, and the harmonica was so on point! This was an epic 3 way collab. Great job ya'll!
