Liner Notes:

Prompt: Hope

I wrote this thinking of my young adult sons, ages 19 and 23, as they deal with life changes and challenges

Collaboration welcome and appreciated!

Lyrics:

Lean on Me

V1
when you are
hanging on to
threads of hope
with grips of despair
or you are
clinging to old
tattered ropes
uncertain in mid-air
know I will try
to understand
and I will be
right there

PC1
I will help you
hold on tight….

C
oh…
when hope is hard to find
when dark thoughts cross your mind
when you are lost in troubled times
you can lean…
lean on me
unconditionally
lean on me
lean on me

V2
when you are
sliding down those
slippery slopes
wondering who cares
or you are
sinking fast and
cannot cope
know I will not
ever judge
and I will be
right here

PC2
I will hold you
through dark nights…

C
oh…
when hope is hard to find
when dark thoughts cross your mind
when you are lost in troubled times
you can lean…
lean on me
unconditionally
lean on me
lean on me

B
I may not always know
the right thing to do or say
but I promise I will try
to help you in every way
I will be there for you…
try my best to help you through….

C
oh…
when hope is hard to find
when dark thoughts cross your mind
when you are lost in troubled times
you can lean…
lean on me
unconditionally
lean on me
lean on me

I really like this. It's so supportive of the listener, and it feels like the words you want to hear when you feel like you're so beaten down.

Aww I read this and thought this is exactly what I would say to my eldest son right about now. Strong and universal message. I liked the description of clinging on to old tattered ropes.

Very relatable images here with a beautiful message of unconditional love for your sons.

Parenting is a lifetime of caring and promise. I now have grandsons who are finishing university and starting out on their own. It is a difficult time to find a way.

Wow, I can really relate (I have 2 sons - 22 & 24). A powerful and loving message of support and the attempt to convey that it's a lifetime of love. I think there may be a difference in a mother's and a father's love, but it's there just the same. Thanks for your lyric!

This is a beautiful song that shows what a mother's love really should be, or really any unconditional love for that matter. This is a great take on the prompt and really wonderful song. Very nice work!
