Liner Notes:

Got this title from the random Wikipedia challenge link: https://randomincategory.toolforge.org/Good_articles?site=en.wikipedia.org. Grove Church Cemetery is a place in New Jersey, and the information in the Wikipedia page had lots of interesting content that could be the subject of numerous songs. Instead, I used it as a title and conjured a man post-Civil War trying to make his way back to a home that he's not sure he still has.

Lyrics:

V1:
Stuck in Wilmington
A bounty on my head
Layin' low
Street lights echoing
The folks that want me dead
Keep me on the go

Break of morning
Find a route that takes me
Out of town
No one chasing
As far as I can see
Not a soul around

CH:
Grove Church Cemetery
The Palisades are on my mind
These days have made my body weary
Can't give myself the time to unwind
I'll keep makin' my way northbound
Slowly move from town to town
'Til I make my way to Grove Church Cemetery
And maybe I'll be home

V2:
Just past Trenton
Almost half-way there
With my nose to the ground
Why do I go back there
When I could go anywhere
Anywhere around

It's because of you
The chance that you have waited
Around for me
That hope keeps me goin'
Will my dreams translate
Into reality

CH:
Grove Church Cemetery
The Palisades are on my mind
These days have made my body weary
Can't give myself the time to unwind
I'll keep makin' my way northbound
Slowly move from town to town
'Til I make my way to Grove Church Cemetery
And maybe I'll be home

Lovely hopeful thoughts, and haunting melody. Makes the song one to listen to more than once.

Beautiful, haunting melody and you've nailed the mythos of Americana with the story.

The transition to the chorus hits a nice sweet spot. As does the transition back into the verse - lovely playing, lovely singing, and a wistful tale to match.
