Dear Mr. Landlord

Liner Notes:

I recently moved and now await my landlord if you can call him that to return my month and half's rent I initially gave him. I say "if I can call him that" because he wasn't a super in a building. I rented a condo unit he owned, and when things needed fixing he hired a handyman to come over and do the work, but regardless I'm less optimistic than others about getting the full amount back. In the lyric I created I chose an urban female voice with a sassy attitude already voicing her concerns regarding a situation similar to my own. These are my thoughts behind closed doors waiting as my guy has till the end of the month to return what I believe should be most of what I put down. But, in the back of my mind, I've lowered my expectations and have my own weather girl in the lyric with boxing gloves on stand-by. Lol

Anyway, this is a fun approach I think people might be able to relate to. Funky, rhythmic and a lot of soul for this one is what I envision.

Oh! The bridge part below is spoken.

Lyrics:

Dear Mr. Landlord

I was a good girl
Kept the place real clean
Never had nobody over
Never been a drama queen
So now you're telling me
My security deposit is on hold?
Mmm Well those are fightin words Mister
And this mood is getting cold

Dear Mr. Landlord
I want my money back
Or I'm taking you to court
Oh you ain't yet seen attack
Oh oh oh
Dear Mr. Landlord
This time I'm gonna fight
For the money that you owe me
I aim to make things right

Paid the rent on time
Did what you would ask
I never bothered you that much
Even when you're slow to task
Well your're gonna hype this?
I always knew deep inside you were a snake
And I got my camera ready
With the pcitures I did take

Dear Mr. Landlord
I want my money back
Or I'm taking you to court
Oh you ain't yet seen attack
Oh oh oh
Dear Mr. Landlord
This time I'm gonna fight
For the money that you owe me
I aim to make things right

Dough-ray-me money honey
Place was spic n span clean Mmhmmm That's right
Anything yo ass is deducting for is wear and tear
And that my dear is more than I can bear

Dear Mr. Landlord
I want my money back
Or I'm taking you to court
Oh you ain't yet seen attack
Oh oh oh
Dear Mr. Landlord
This time I'm gonna fight
For the money that you owe me
I aim to make things right

I've dealt with landlords like this, and I love the attitude you chose. This will be a great song!

Been there. I rented a cabin/house once by a river, the location was nice, but the landlord lived in a nearby city and basically didn't do anything. The pipes were not insulated and in a big snow storm in the middle of winter, the pipes froze and the heat went off and I had to do an emergency move. It was awful and yes he kept my deposit, but it was his fault. Horrible experience as I had also kept the place nice, but didn't know about the pipes. Yours seems worse as there shouldn't be any questions.

Landlords, ugh! Tenants - ick! Have been on both ends. You’ve definitely been a “good girl”. We had one (a former “Miss Nevada”) who wanted someone to change the lightbulbs - lol!

Fun write!! Unfortunately, not-so-fun lived experience. Sorry you are going through that malarkey, but you put the emotion to good use and got a sharp, clever, and very relatable song from it. Well done!

Oh if it were not so. Most people have or know a similar story. Nice write
