Liner Notes:

I cowrote this song with a friend of mine, Smudge Swann, and she is also the performer.
The process was she sent me the rough melody, picked out by an instrument with a little background music, and then I set about working out the rhythms, up and downs and so on. Then I wrote the lyrics to fit it Smile

This is a rough first demo version, just to get an idea Smile

Thank you for listening,
Amanda

Lyrics:

Verse
Can’t you see I’m not your property
I’m not yours
Maybe you should go and find a passive little girl
Not sure what you hope to get from me
Don't care
Don’t you see you'll never ever understand my world

Pre chorus
I don't, don't need, need a man, not at all
I don't want you in my head

Chorus
I am loving who I am right now
I know I will survive
I am powerful I have no doubt
But don’t you touch my life

Verse 2
I don’t give authority to you
Oh no
You can try and put me down but you don’t have consent
Got no time to waste on empty views
Pretence
Self-deluded guys like you come off so arrogant

Pre chorus
I don't, don't need, need a man, not at all
I don't want you in my bed

Chorus
I am loving who I am right now
I know I will survive
I am powerful I have no doubt
But don’t you touch my life

Bridge
I've been afraid I don't like you
Speak my own mind but
Now is the time yeah
You seem to think you know best but
You're full of it
You're not the saviour of me and
It's you who can't see cus'
You're talking at me yeah
You're here but I never asked so
Let me free

Chorus
I am loving who I am right now
I know I will survive
I am powerful I have no doubt
But don’t you touch my life

Nice downtempo power ballady write! Smudge is in fine form here and the lyrics are strong. Two thumbs up!

It takes courage to leave silences in a song, and crikey, they really hit home here. For me the key to the song is that line "I don't want you in my head." I've known several people that you really wouldn't ever want to let inside your mind.

Smudge is really nailing the delivery here. The slow groove of that drum loop really powers this along, reminds me of the heady days when I discovered the music of Curve and Garbage.

Even as a first draft, this is stunningly good.

Quality goth vibe here! I love it. Smile

The lyrics are great, and the sparse instruments serve to highlight the vocals. Great songwriting, great performance.

Truly a great song. Smile
