Liner Notes:

When I am travelling solo, I often take a notebook, and keep a diary so I can remember where I went and what I saw.
One day at lunch in an old timber framed pub in Banbury, I described the people in the pub in my diary.

Lyrics:

Sitting down hard on a poorly padded bench,
She looked out the window at the large wooden sign
The passersby didn't see her rather sad expression
She heard music playing somewhere in the background
Billy Joel ‘s For The Longest Time
For a brief moment, she felt it.
Life passing by.

On one side, a young couple, keeping eyes on the baby in the pram,
They looked a bit worn down, the baby keeping them awake at night
Eating lunch, aware of their sleeping child
They heard music playing somewhere in the background
Sitting close , Sounds of silence.
For a brief moment, they felt it.
Life passing by.

At the bar, a flirty young woman was pressing into the man beside her,
Quietly making plans, laughing softly with anticipation.
Over to the left, a group of older men, just finishing their fish n chips,
Enjoying their pints of ale, talking about their wives at the Turkish Bath
They heard music playing somewhare in the background
Imagining, Midnight at the Oasis
For a brief moment, they felt it.
Life passing by.

Through the door, a group of working lads ready for a liquid lunch.
The couple with the baby looking nervous as the energy level goes up a notch.
The boys all start in on their beers as the lunches were under way.
The mother takes her wakened baby, as her partner packs up the gear
They heard music playing somewhare in the background
Imagining, Ordinary People
For a brief moment, they felt it.
Life passing by.

A light rain has started outside, the woman in the window seat sighs .
Pulling at her collar as she walks through the two sets of old wooden doors,
Making her way along the cobbled streets, through the alleyway to her bus stop.
She eyes her reflection in the shop window, as a man bumps her arm.
She heard music playing somewhare in the background
Hey, Can you see me?
For a brief moment, she felt it.
Life passing by.

Meals prepared, and eaten in silence, with the odd pleasantry.
Followed by the same rituals and tv watching in the evening.
They were two people living in the same space, a bond of matrimony and duty
Seemed like for ever the longest time.
They heard music playing somewhare in the background
I forgot how nice romance is,
For a brief moment, they felt it.
Life passing by.
Life passing by.

Wow this was cool to watch. You are so calm and collected while expressing this epic story. Well performed in all ways. I love this!

Well done to get this whole song from this encounter! Nicely done.

Such great observations, told in balladeer style. That drifting time, recognised in the cloud of background music, which of course surrounds us all the time, ready to spark that realization. Great glue for the stories told, that universal truth.
Very well done, my friend.
Thanks, as always, for your visits and kind words! Smile

What a great idea to write a song from your pub diary entry! Lots of good details. Very pleasant demo, strong refrain. Good one!

I like all the observations and details in the lyric and how you connect each story to hearing the music in the background and "for a brief moment they felt it. Life passing by". Pretty vocal and I enjoyed the way you deliver the story. Good playing too!
