Liner Notes:

Earlier today I was looking up a friend's number in my little address book (which happens to be black). I remembered a rough lyric idea I'd toyed with some time ago. I grabbed the notes from my archive, made a bunch of changes: deleted lines, added lines, wrote a pre-chorus, changed words, etc. Ended up being almost a skirmish with myself. Wink

***If a male musician/vocalist is interested in collaborating on this one, let me know.

22.07: ***Meanwhile, it is now the seed lyric for the Lyric Morph Challenge. I look forward to the diverse iterations. Smile

Lyrics:

Turned the Tables

V1
Had a little black book
And the pages were full
Most of the names I'd forget
But that new girl in town
Had a book of her own
And she wasn't done with me yet

Pre-chorus
She knew every trick
I’d played on other lovers
I learned real quick
She wasn’t a book
I could read from its cover

Chorus
I’ll never know
How she turned the tables
‘N how she was able
To make me burn, make me yearn
I’ll never know
How she brought me to my knees
...And turned the tables on me

V3
Hadn't happened before
Didn't know I would fall
Could charm, cheat, and lie with the best
But that new girl was bold
Like the stories she told
I ended up being a mess

Pre-chorus
She knew every trick
I’d played on other lovers
I learned real quick
She wasn’t a book
I could read from its cover

(Chorus)
I’ll never know
How she turned the tables
‘N how she was able
To make me burn, make me yearn
I’ll never know
How she brought me to my knees
...And turned the tables on me

Bridge
Now the ceilin’ fan’s blowin’
On this man here alone
Yeah, the medicine's bitter
But I guess it's my own

Chorus
I’ll never know
How she turned the tables
‘N how she was able
To make me burn, make me yearn
I’ll never know
How she brought me to my knees
...And turned the tables on me
