It's a Long Way Down

Liner Notes:
Another superskirmish. Fantastic prompt (even though at first I didn't like it and wondered what I could come up with lol!). Another song about the advancing years.
Lyrics:
V1:
I hate the way the years pass by
Bluebirds sing but the crows won't fly
The Kansas wind seems to call my name
But I feel tired just the same
CH:
It's a Long Way Down
To the place where my feet just touch the ground
It's a Long Way Down
Gonna make my way to that side of town
V2:
I hate the way my face gets old
Troubles lived and storied told
I wake up, jump right out of bed
Better that than just layin' there dead
CH:
It's a Long Way Down
To the place where my feet just touch the ground
It's a Long Way Down
Gonna make my way to that side of town
V2:
I hate it when I run away
Half the time I'd rather play
Like a little kid in a big sand pile
Havin' fun for at least a mile
CH:
It's a Long Way Down
To the place where my feet just touch the ground
It's a Long Way Down
Gonna make my way to that side of town

What a great opening verse. We like that Kansas wind
you are into your harmonies this year - and for good reason they are very good! Nice guitar roll. A bit Neil Young this one! Fine song Jeff
I agree with Coolparadiso with the Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young here - Love the easy feeling of this - great writing, and a lovely listen! Thank you!
What a beautiful song! So likable and sincere. Very catchy and instantly likable. And very relatable too. Beautiful singing and playing. Love your voice, playing and harmonizations.
Oh man, those harmonies are gorgeous and the lyrics of that chorus are fully deserving of them. Great take
Love these harmonies and I'll cosign the Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young vibes. "Troubles lived and stories told" is such a beautiful way to describe an aging face. Gorgeous.
Sometimes mortality and the advancing of time are just what's to mind. Great melody, guitar picking and harmonies. Has a classic CSNY feel for sure.
This is fantastic! “ Bluebirds sing but the crows won't fly” is such a wonderful line. The guitar riffs and the chorus harmonies are particularly lovely. This is amazing work for a skirmish - a keeper for sure!
Oh man the harmonies on the sweet melody. That alone is a keeper. Story paints a picture too. I had the same reaction to the prompt at first, then went the way I did with a bit of a nudge from your earlier skirmish song and the hosts recent Zoom story about playing sad songs on ukelele.
The guitar is lovely and the vocal harmonies amazing! What a gorgeous song. I love the insights and images! Brilliant!
This is such a great write for a skirmish! Verse 2 is super solid:
‘I hate the way my face gets old
Troubles lived and stories told
I wake up, jump right out of bed’
Better that than just layin' there dead
I really like the way your writing is conversational yet with tight rhymes and a deeper meaning. That’s the jackpot
