Red Roses
Post date:

Liner Notes:
Another road song - some guy who plows through life without taking time to "smell the roses"
Lyrics:
V1:
Asphalt in my eyes
Gravel in my soul
The map is telling lies
While these wheels forever roll
Mirage in melting sun
Not fooling anyone
Tunnel vision wins
Puts a skid mark on my sins
CHORUS:
(Shoulda smelled those)
Red Roses
On this ragged road I’m livin’
Red Roses
Won’t see the gifts I'm given
Red Roses
Thought I knew where I was goin’
Barreled straight ahead without a clue
Shoulda slowed down enjoyed the view
V2:
Engine's running hot
Through short-cuts I have sought
Dashboard's dusty dials
Give meaning to the many miles
Looking straight ahead
By now I should be dead
What should I have done
To make this trip more fun
CHORUS:
(Shoulda smelled those)
Red Roses
On this ragged road I’m livin’
Red Roses
Won’t see the gifts I'm given
Red Roses
Thought I knew where I was goin’
Barreled straight ahead without a clue
Shoulda slowed down enjoyed the view

Great guitar riffing! The chorus is killer. The red roses harmonies is timeless and lovely. The last rhyming couplet is beautiful lyrically and melodically.
Interesting balance between the guitar and the vocals. Great harmonies, real strong chorus
This is very good. Really effective harmonies and guitar. A little CSN &Y. Then the trumpet!!! It's perfect. Wise lyrics too.
nice grateful dead feel and those laurel canyon harmonies really make the chorus special. the trumpet solo is an extra bonus.
Nice Newgrass sound. I like the chorus too but I'm wondering what it would be like if you took out the last line.
There can never be too many road songs! Good to hear your trumpet chops. Truly inspired by your musical instincts. It’s rare to come across such a natural singer/songwriter as yourself.
