The Angry Ghost

Liner Notes:
Many moon ago I had to travel around the world ( this will date it) i had my walkman but forgot my cassettes. I went into the airport shop, The only one i recognised was a Kiwi band called Split Enz (legendary NZ band - morphed through one brother to Crowded House). So for for to many hours and days i listened to them exclusively! Once i remembered this the other day i knew i had to try something a bit wacky like them! i was probably most influenced by a song called that was my mistake. This was my attempt. There were times today when i wish i hadnt - oh my the timing was difficult! for all that effort i have to mark this a favourite. But hey it is fun!

Lyrics:
I See the angry ghost
Returning from the rugged coast.
She picks a golden flower,
In the shadow of the towns clock tower
Standing near the iconic stone
With a style that i s just her own
Like some amusing dancer,
Doing what will advance her
She's not alone she spy’s a fly,
a pet alpaca, and a butterfly.
None realise what's at stake
Only care for the next tax break
she finds it hard to see the net,
Only playing red on roulette.
Who is that soaring near the box
It seems just like a paradox
She soars just like an eagle,
needs more gas, but still looks regal.
not alone when she sits by the pond,
Has a pet owl, with feathers blonde
She likes to run and chase a petal,
until the singing of the kettle.
She's not alone she brings a bowl,
a pet wolf, sits on the grassy knoll.
Throwing over shoulder salt
Trying to see whose at fault
She throws a ball with a curve
then she sits back to obverse.
Her mind is soft like chalk,
Maybe its time to take a walk
Hope its helped to ease the pain
then the song that comes round again
I See the angry ghost
Returning from the rugged coast.
She picks a golden flower,
In the shadow of the towns clock tower
Standing near the iconic stone
With a style that is just her own
Like some amusing dancer,
Doing that which will advance her
Throwing over shoulder salt
Trying to see whose at fault
She throws a ball with a curve
then she sits back to obverse.
Her mind is soft like chalk,
Maybe its time to take a walk
Hope its helped to ease the pain
then the song comes round again
and again and again and again and again

The reggae groove and the endless stream of enigmatic imagery make this song shine.
love the laid back but bouncy reggae groove. i like your delivery in this has a nice light touch. nicely done
Well now- a bouncy reggae ton groove. This kept my head bobbin' and a wide grin on my face. I dig the first line in the last verse, "her mind is soft like chalk." Great description. The whole song is well done; solid structure and great delivery!
quirky and fun! Love the relaxed bouncey feel and delivery of the catchy melody!
the lighthearted delivery and visually rich tale make this recording scream for an animated video to accompany it. regarding your liner notes, i had a similar experience when i boarded a trrain bound for seattle in boston and discovered the only cd i was carried was an extensed single of suedes trash.
I really enjoy quirky macabre so this was precisely my cup of tea. I like all the details, like the pet owl and the playing red on roulette.
cool groove...
A slightly 'Alice in Wonderland' aspect to the song while the music and vocal adds more fun feel.
nice work! i concur in that 'alice in wonderland', maybe by way of an 'Al Stewart going down the the Caribbean' vibe--- this is great fun and wonderfully enigmatic and full of great hooks.
Perhaps oddly, I can picture this being performed in an old-time vaudeville theater, by a singer with a boater hat, bowtie and cane. Not sure where that image came from, but regardless, this has a bouncy charm that's captivating and tons of fun. Wacky indeed, and full of character that makes it an utter delight!
Cool groove. Hard to sit still while listening. It's amazing what cool things we can find on 50/90 and this is a prime example.
Very fun to listen to this, John! Lots of creative images bouncing along in a jaunty melody. Nice work!
The idea of an angry spirit collides with this whimsical setting and does not come through unscathed! This goes from off-kilter to laugh out loud funny in record time
I enjoyed all those images in the story. "Her mind is soft like chalk"...I mean, what an image. Light, bouncy music and the delivery give it good energy as it covers a lot of ground.
Your liner note made me remember a story, and then that first reggae hit cracked me up!
I had an old car with no am/fm and the tape deck had been sketchy for years and the tape it finally decided to grab was Babylon by Bus. I didn't try real hard to get it out either as I was more than satisfied with a car that only played Bob Marley.
This is a really great story I thouroughly enjoyed, and that was some damn fine accompaniment that fit it perfectly! I'm tired its been a long day but I couldn't sit still for that if someone paid me.
This is super cool. Like the way they guitar cuts through nice production!
With your precise pronunciation the lyric moves like a music hall song, but reads like some psychedelic stream of consciousness.
Adding the reggae beat was another contrast that really succeeded. Very entertaining song full of adroit quirks.
Really different for you! Love the reggae beat and the lovely surreal lyrics. A perfect summer song! Female backing vox a plus. Love the pet wolf, the chalk mind and pet alpaca!
Fantastic imagery in the lyrics, I really like the first verse in particular but the whole thing has a sort of syd Barrett vibe lyrically. The reggae groove is fun, the oohs and aahs are almost stonesy.
This is great fun from the fabulous backing vocals to the infectious melody to the whimsical lyric...smiles all round!
Sweet reggae vibe in this one. Clever lyrics
Very nicely arranged, my friend. That is a LOT of lyrics--coulda had a couple/three songs out of that.
Looking forward to listening to a lot more from you--I'm getting a late start myself, just uploading #1 right now.
Good job!
Great writing as always.
A story-tellers song.
But catchy melodies and feel keeps the listener engaged.
That vocal backing is a very cool touch and sounds nice under the guitar rhythm.
I'm late to the party!! This was such a fun tune! Great write, vox, playing, production! Top notch all around... really like the vibe!!

Lovely vibe. Great and unexpected reagge touch. Very well performed. Your voice really comes forward and is the song. GREAT JOB
