Liner Notes:

I am so sick of the extremely slow progress in the USA to live up to our constitutional promises! Yet hopeful when someone like Chauvin actually goes to prison.

This is my very first attempt at this genre. No guitars. No banjos. No fiddles. Just synths, drums and vocals.

yer feelin's on the inside
been reelin' since yer dad died
workin' on the hurtin'
cause you know that shit's for certain

yeah yer having trouble feeling
turning 'round double dealing
spinning all four wheels
winning? don't how that feels

yer out there prowlin'
yer growlin' yer howlin'
it's a four alarm affair
bipolar teddy bear

yer head is underwater
like a lamb led to the slaughter
bleedin' nuthin' but despair
needin' more than thoughts & prayers

forever night
yer dyin'
on the corner
and yer not allowed to fight
forever night
horrifyin'
leavin' mourners
and it don't seem right

police just shot a mother's son
they claim he had loaded gun
they say he should have never run
and now his life is done

there's a picture where yer sleepin'
it's yer mama and yer weepin'
goin' feral like a lion
cryin' terrifyin'

yer body's goin' numb
nothin' left to overcome
steppin' outta the light
and you see forever night

forever night
yer dyin'
on the corner
and yer not allowed to fight
forever night
horrifyin'
leavin' mourners
and it don't seem right

forever night
yer dyin'
on the corner
and yer not allowed to fight
forever night
horrifyin'
leavin' mourners
and you know it ain't right
you know it ain't right
you know it ain't right
you know it ain't right
you know it ain't right

hard hitting words and a big sound for it all to hop and roll in. you may have created a new genre here...americana hip hop. prine meets prince.

Really insightful, powerful, and important. The anger, and impatience with the longstanding injustices comes through clearly. An incredible start for 50/90! Thank you for writing and sharing this!

A little different from what I expected but bravo! I love how you put it all together and how important it is!

Wow, this is so different than your norn. Unique and timely written. Nice mix of heavy mentality but the percussion gives it an amazing energy. Love the vocal changes. Love everything! What a fantastic start to the summer!

Fantastic to hear you outside of your usual genres, John. Excellent, thought-provoking lyrics, vocals sound super, and the music is really compelling.

Unexpected, but awesome sounds from John Staples! Smile This song is catchy and might really have created its own genre of music! The anger nicely shines through and hats off for brave and that well written lyrics!

What an awesome opener! And this is your first foray into this style?!
Hugely powerful way to get your message out there. This is a fabulous piece of work - and an instant favourite for me. More like this please. Smile
And not a single banjo in earshot...

This works so well John because you mean what you say and you say what you mean and of course you're bang on both lyrically and musically...well done for expanding the boundaries...if only more could do the same across the board...

Incredibly successful venture into unfamiliar territory, sounds like your own backyard. Heavy stuff despite the lack of guitars, very well chosen sounds for such a topic and a raw, convincing vocal performance. Impressive.

Realized I hadn't seen you around here, so did a search. DO MORE! DO MORE!

You're already doing what I plan on doing after I get to 25 or so of "my usual songs"--I want to stretch my wings a little and do more experimental stuff. Like this!

Great stuff--do more!

Whoa! First attempt at the genre and you knocked it out of the park. This has an old school hip-hop feel, but I also hear your hard rock influence--a good combination. Some heavy hitting lyrics delivered with conviction. Nice work!
