Political/topical, quarantine, pandemic, etc songs...

So almost everywhere in the world, this strange year of 2020, with the pandemic, quarantine, various unrest, etc. has made it a very different year then many others.
We songwriters don't live in a vacuum, of course, and I suspect that some of what's happening will reflect the larger world around us, especially at a time like this.
(That's not to say, of course, that songs about a million other things are not welcome at this time, just an acknowledgement that these times are stranger then 'usual' for most of us. Those who know my stuff know that I sometimes (not all the time, but sometimes) write so-called 'poltiical' or 'topical' songs about what's going on in the larger world.... and I see that many others have done the same recently.

here's a not-by-any-means complete list of some 5090 songs this year that seem to address those larger issues. First two are mine (out of three I've done in total up to now) and the rest are marked. I'd love for people to add to this thread and this list and write your own songs about these larger concerns and post here, should the muse/spirit/whatever move you to do so! Stay safe and stay creative, everyone! Smile

Stop me if you heard this before

Fear of contagion can twist a person into a sociopathic wreck who wants to beat the shit out of anyone who comes near. Lots of people suffer from this, and most blame it pn something or somebody else.

Here's my "quiet folk anthem for the 21st century," as one very kind FWAMer described it. Vaguely to the tune of Ray Charle's America the Beautiful - http://fiftyninety.fawmers.org/song/41744

from the skirmish prompt 'Triumph' *42039

need to check out the rest of the above songs (tho I've heard alot of them so far- and some great stuff!). I saw the skirmish prompt 'the truth' and couldn't help but write this one... http://fiftyninety.fawmers.org/song/42134

Wasn't sure if I'd write anything topical this year, but I had a bout of inspiration tonight. Based on a dream I had recently: http://fiftyninety.fawmers.org/song/42237

A couple from this weekends skirmishes:
He’s the Worst - http://fiftyninety.fawmers.org/song/42008
The Deluge - http://fiftyninety.fawmers.org/song/42080

Well, it's election year again, and the lunatic fringe parties are more lunatic and fringe than ever.

A Hundred Clips: http://fiftyninety.fawmers.org/song/42234

thanks everyone- keep 'em coming!

this one from yesterday was a skirmish, i didn't specifically label it "political" but it is, I guess, in a way, or at least topical/ 'what's on people's minds' etc.

A yes, the truth, -- interesting, just how many there are.

Here's a song for civil rights hero and one of the last of that generation- the great John Lewis, who just died yesterday...

Contagion of a Hateful Nation

Indeed, so many ways to see it, but which one is "Right":

from today's skirmish 'snake in the grass'

"Aunty Anti-Facist [Dogs]", oh, it's gonna be big, big I tell'ya...

"Tribal Supremacy [the new bigotry]", indeed...

So this one's not really political at all, tho it deals with one of the sad side-effects of this pandemic, namely, a closing of a neighborhood restaurant.

Here's one that also got included in the week 4 challenge..accidently so to speak...

I feel like about 1/2 my songs this year are pandemic influenced... But this one definitely is http://fiftyninety.fawmers.org/song/43105 and this one is more personal http://fiftyninety.fawmers.org/song/42974

I don't do political stuff, but this could be construed as such..."Liars"

So true Mike, songwriters are tuning into the situation... I was composing music about lockdown from the start of lockdown in UK:

I have another political song, seems like many of us are being influenced by what's going on: http://fiftyninety.fawmers.org/song/42997

As of about 23 minutes ago, the South Australian border is sealed, not even residents can return out of the Plague State aka Victoria (and that includes our daughter). I didn't get the demo for this TRUE coronavirus song, the Last Bus to Adelaide, up in time to do a youtube and perhaps get some viral push but still. The "lad" in it was one of my daughter's staff. http://fiftyninety.fawmers.org/song/43020 I believe he has made it home, just.

"Love Speak"

- when words are outlawed, only outlaws speak, "love"?:

This one's not really political at all, but is inspired by the pandemic, so it qualifies under the original thread topic

my first one here in a few days, actually... was wondering if I'd get back to this!

This quick one-verse- political piano ballad was written in response to a skirmish with the title 'dream'. Couldn't resist the Sinclair Lewis quote.

this one i did the other week counts from a muso's perspective... http://fiftyninety.fawmers.org/song/43067 Do A Do

"Ahhh 20 Visions", - indeed:

This was my attempt - 'Get the f**k away from me!' about people to refuse to socially distance. For a 1 minute angry, shouty punk song, this is about the most popular thing I've ever done - it was shared and retweeted around so I ended up getting a lot of random listeners and comments in SoundCloud..

"The Time to Resist is Now" - http://fiftyninety.fawmers.org/song/44394

http://fiftyninety.fawmers.org/song/44543 collaboration wuth Surefire,
what would we know of the dust bowl, the depression, the grand coulee dam....were it not for the songs Woody Guthrie wrote about them? So much of the peoples history is handed down in song. Today, with the emergence of tens of thousands of songwriters around the world, where once there were only a handful, we are heir to the greatest cornucopia of personal experience the world has ever known. there must be thousands of songs written about the great pandemic of 2020,yet even though advanced communication technology has connected the world as it has never before been connected, most of these songs will be heard by only a relative few. someday, however, they will be unearthed, a vast archive revealing who we were in the beginnings on the 21st century. and it will be a discovery more signficant than the woody guthrie songbook. Just from what I have heard from the 50 90 group is already the best representation ofthe effects of the pandemic on all aspects of human life. One of my favorite lyrics was written by Surefire, and he allowed me the privilage of collaborating on it. Although I have already comleted four albums of Covid 19 inspired material, Surefires lyric took me in a completely new direction..a rousing howl of fear and indignation that truly expressed the beginnings of a social breakdown that is only worsening with the anxiety of time

I found it too difficult to write a song about the pandemic but the 10x10 challenge from @kahlo2013 to write 10 second songs somehow removed the the block. I guess I have the beginnings of things I want to say but they are not ready yet. Anyway here is the link to a collection of ten songs each lasting ten seconds. http://fiftyninety.fawmers.org/song/44546

and after not writing anything for a few weeks, I wrote a toast song for someone's wedding, and then, I wrote this political thing in response to this sunday's skirmish

and as my old saying goes 'sometimes its easier to write two songs then one'... so here's the second political-themed song of the day

"Satan's got a brand new bag"

pandemic The World Outside http://fiftyninety.fawmers.org/song/44966

The Bomb (exploded version) [collaboration]

'image of orange'... might be about the fires in California, or something else, or both, ...
