Soundboard

6 OCt: if anyone still here_--back for a couple of days, putting up incomplete and complete lyrics. As much as I can do.

18 Sep: I've got till Friday. So I'm posting incompletes and lyrics not yet recorded to ensure I have the record and to be able to come back and post demos for any of those still around and still listening mid-October. At least I'll have gotten halfway, a major advance on last year, despite local disasters.

6 Sep: there's a bit more I'll be able to put up soon. Ngurunderi from 2009 has come to life again, who knows how long for, and apart from getting proposals together, I've been working on the climax music which wasn't done, back in 5090 2009. Next week, should be able to get some recording and (ahem) singing done.
Not to mention listening...

14 Aug: still stationary. Complicated. At least the sun's out today.

3 Aug: and a couple of sessions later, that job seems to have died a death. Now we have old job rising like Lazarus with electrodes. Still nowhere. Sigh.

29 July: OK, 140 jazz/musical & scattered pop songs learnt (still need lead sheets for now) so my sight is dazzled by blue sky except for this smoke that keeps getting in my eyes. Still nowhere with anything new, but for now I'll take the money...

14 July: 10 songs +1 lyric. All action has stopped while I get to grips with lunch/dinner pianos. Work has stopped 5090 in its tracks before for me: but work being music is something of a first!

5 July: 2 songs no lyrics. 2 lyrics no songs. I tried to cheat but I failed.

How I'm recording here. Once I have a feel for what I'm after, I play live using piano or a sustaining organ/string depending on what sort of music. I have Notation COmposer running usually with a metronome which I listen to when appropriate and ignore when not: the performance is MIDI recorded. I then use the notation as a map, and either (when I'm being serious) replay, or layer, or as in most of the current stuff simply edit the notation until the pregnant pauses, stops and restarts, and seriously wrong notes are gone. Because my keyboard is rather industrial as a piano, I almost always use a good piano sample through the sequencer for the audio recording.

Thanks Tim, That sounds perfect. I have put it up, I will send out an SOS for vocalists

You're welcome Tim. Do you want me add you as a collab on I'm Regressing or should we create a new post when you are ready?

Thanks for the comments Tim, yes Arthur Sullivan comes to mind, think there's a bit of Noel Coward there as well.

Chop away, Tim! Whatever you want to do with it is cool. Looks like Nancy has done her own version of it, but if you still want to make one, that is a-ok.

Tim, thank you for your kind comments on "Kodak Heart" and "Cavia Cobaya". The latter is going through a re-work on many of the tracks. Was having problems with Sonar software.

Thanks for the listen on Time And Again and the compliment. But even Obi-Wan does not think of himself as a master in the presence of Yoda. ;)

Yup, ya caught me, lol!!

Well, it was weird, but OK. :P

Thanks for those kind remarks Tim. On the song skirmish, if they give you a title of something your brain was already trying to write, it works out OK.

Hey Tim, in mine and I hope I may also speak in my collaborators` name, thanks a lot for your that kind comments on "tonight" and "there are days"...

And thanks for the feedback on the Train Song too! I'm glad you like it :)

Ah Tim, you are way, way too kind - a virtuoso ukulele player I most certainly am not - far from it. But thank you for such amazingly positive feedback on The Letter :)

Thank for commenting on Red Top - if you wanted to complain about the lack of music, I've just denied you - demo now up :)

Hi Tim, thank you for your sweet reaction to "Winter Wind", my collab with @sdecourcey. Since you also downloaded the song, I wanted to let you know that I uploaded a slightly better version (less cracks and noise). I'm now trying your tips on "Sheets In A Sail" too. :-)

Roel

Hi Tim, thank you very much for your impressions and feedback on "Sheets In A Sail". Now that I'm back from holiday, I'm in a overtaking maneuver to catch up with all the songs I had written but not yet recorded or mixed well. After that I want to give your tips a try. Really curious how that will work out. Thanks a lot! I will also try midi, though I haven't that much experience with it.

Roel

Hey, Tim.

Thanks for your comment on 'Just Another Roll Of the Dice'. High praise indeed from one such as yourself.

Shady

Tim, thanks for the kind comments! I'm laughing you that you listened to the pig song looking for my one chord wonder. I started writing the pig song around July 6th when I was out camping and couldn't record, so it has been taking shape in my mind for awhile. After writing the one chord song I had all this pent-up guitar and complex chord progression energy so I figured I might as well lay down the pig song as well. It was a busy day. The one chord song is called "Day of the Dollar" and it was a really different approach for me, Your comments are quite insightful, I would really appreciate anything you have to say about it.

Thank you a lot for your comments on my two songs so far! Yeah, I'll have to be careful with that powertech thing... Wouldn't want to help create the future I imagine.

re: insight-- personal flaws aren't wasted if you can write about 'em.

Tim, if you like one of my songs, I know I am on the right track. As always, I am one of your quiet, avid fans. :)

Hiya Tim, thanks for the lovely feedback on Now and Dark Falls! Much appreciated :) and yes, don't be too cruel on your uke, it will love you to the end :)

hello Tim, thanks a million for that technical advice its exactly the kind of critique that i really appreciate... i love how you were really getting into the advice, imagine how i feel lol those repetitive songs are impossible to leave lone once created :D it really needs a band to jam it out in my opinion but thanks a bunch for the technical and your recommendations on monitor speakers are very helpful too...

Thanks for the nice comment about "Basements." I added the lyrics for you!

Thank you so much for your wonderful comment on "Winter Wind." I certainly agree that those chords were stunning. He did such a great job...and I'm glad you enjoyed it (:

Thanks for the mix check on "twist one out". I will certainly want to go back and boost the lows/add a low end element--my KRK monitors are a tad muddy/unreliable in the low end of the spectrum. The comment was very helpful, I have a lot of problems getting the 200hz-60hz range to sound the same on different speakers/systems.

You could certainly sample anything from the track. I will even get you the project stems if you want those to play with. Or I'd be happy to describe how I created anything.

Thanks for the comment. Like I've said somewhere on this site, the goal isn't to be awesome, just to give an idea what it's like. And the fact that you've got ideas for basslines--that makes me happy. I feel like I succeeded.

Tim, absolutely! Feel free to pass Betwixt and Between along to your friend. Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the comment. :)

Well, I did have him duct-taped to a barstool with his guitar chained to him, but he escaped and went back to work. There's no rest for the wicked, I suppose.

Hey Tim, thanks for the comment again, just wondering though, I have no idea how to record MIDI, any tips?

see email!

hi tim! thanks for the comment on my song. to answer your question, the tuning is standard GCEA. i added the dischord to keep it interesting. :)

You've managed to hear how my songwriting has changed from FAWM 2010 (which had maybe one or two salvagable songs) to today, you're in an enviable position. :P Thanks for the comment as always!

Tim, thanks for the comments and the advice re file hosting. I was going to use the 50/90 file hosting service but it doesn't seem to be set up yet for this year. I did use boxstr but its often unaccessible - are there any sites that you would recommend?

Comment by Tim Fatchen
http://fiftyninety.fawmers.org/content/suggestions-host-sites#comment-32169 has suggestions; also 5090 hosting is now up

Thanks for your comment, I really appreciate it :) Also thanks for the haiku thread, much fun and time wasting has been had so far by counting syllables.

I really appreciate your comments on "Cages." I'm proud of it and I think it has potential to be one of my better songs, but I agree with you that it still needs work. I'll definitely take your advice into account when I'm revising it later on (:

Thanks very much for your comments on the collab with Monty!

Yes, collab with myself: pieces and parts. Music one day, lyrics another. Leftovers for tomorrow; stew on Sunday. It's all music, and it's all going to the same place, right? Now put the flame on won't you?

SNAFU-ku games begin!

And too bad the season of SNAFU-ku has apparently waned, and with it the hilarity of epic frustration. Here's to new fodder!

Hi Tim,
I dearly love the haiku thread, and I'm so full of appreciation that you keep it stoked. I'm not much for pre-event chatter, but I am lit with enthusiasm by the small (or sometimes enormous) ideas that arise in that thread. It's such a great way to kick off the writing season for me. Granted I sometimes piggyback, and I hope that's okay. So, muchas gracias, for your steady presence there. And if my ways should ever bug you, please give me a heads up, okay? I can never tell in this virtual world how annoying I might be... :) BR

Thanks for the reply to my forum question, Tim. This is my first 50/90 and I didn't want to start on a bad foot. I've added you to my watchlist and look forward to hearing some of your work this year. Good luck. wolf

I know, i beat you to the Fin Ku thread, just to see how long it would take you to get there. less than two minutes, not bad at all, TF.

Your borderline maniacal posts disport, amuse and inflate the rest of us reprobates. Keep on keepin' on!

Tim Tim! How are you?

i always AM a creation of the moment. can't you tell?

in the morning... i will be conscious. of what, i am not sure.

I'm aboutas ready as I get. Are you?
