BIO:

I play rhythm guitar and keyboards. I like to record stuff, and experiment with it.

My desired sound is a mix of The Beatles (Revolver-Rubber Soul-White Album) with Prince (1999-Sign O’ The Times-Black Album-Batman) and Fiona Apple. Catchy, acoustic-electric slightly psycho/experimental songs with sharp personal lyrics and a lot of backing vocals.

Of course the final outcome sounds completely different, but as long as there is plenty room of improvement I’ve got something to work on!

This is my first 50/90, after completing my first FAWM this February. 50 songs sounds like an awful lot...

# update 23/9 # After a slow start I'm finally up to speed. I planned to learn to work with DAWS this summer (I even bought an Apple), but that didn't happen yet. I'm still using my Technics and Casio keyboards and a digital multitrack (a Zoom R24, connected with an old Boss BR-600). I'm not sure what is happening, but I've never been this productive before!.

Comments are highly appreciated!

wow you did it! congrats... i got way too busy. can't wait to listen to all these!

Hey Rob! Thanks for all your kind comments on my songs. And congratulations on winning!

thanks, rob, for the compliment! there were a couple more that i didn't get to post on time, but i was pleased with the turn out. :) congrats to you for getting to fifty-two! quite an impressive feat! see you next year! :D

Congrats on making it Rob - you're a star! I spent the first month finishing a pre 50/90 song and then rerecorded two FAWM songs - so I knew I was never going to make it.

I'm really considering building a website and moving the blogs to wordpress which is making me lazyer with updating, but thanks for the kick in the pants!

Hi Rob! Thanks so much for your comments, both on the Exquisitie Corpse and on my final effort. Congratulations on your win and for being a die-hard, up to the end participant. Having been a drop-out for a significant portion of the time, I really appreciate you guys who kept things hopping around here!! I like the new album art too.

Hey Rob! Thanks a lot for your kind congratulations and for your comment on "the girl you got to know"... I was very pleased to read it...

Thanks for taking the time to read my lyrics Rob. Very much appreciated. The Arafura sea was the edge of the Dutch empire once :)

Hi Rob.
Thanks for dropping by.
I will congratulate you on reaching 50! And having the last song posted.
Looking forward to hearing from you, with good news, I hope, at your convenience.
wolf.

that is indeed me playing sitar... and that's a great song about pi you did during fawm! glad you let me know about that, sorry I missed it in Feb!

Thanks for your comments on those three lyrics. I wasn’t sure if going from the negative to positive in “In My Own Way” was going to work. Good to hear some feedback.

WAY TO GO ROB!!!
Congrats on getting to 50... plus a few extra. LOL

ooo 47! Holy guacamole. i wish i had a chance at catching up to you. Thank you for your incredibly sweet comments. It's really kind of you to take time to listen and process and respond. you're a real 'mensch' as they say.

Thank you so much for all your encouragement and kind comments, and look at you! You only have 6 more to go. You can do it!!!

Thanks for your comment on Rubber Room. Here's the song which inspired it:

Crazy Doctor by Loudness http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R32eIyIvlzY

Thank you for your kind comment on my collab, "Enchanted Sand" with Nadia and Darci!

Also: 44 songs?! Whoa! You're almost there...

Thanks Rob! Quite pleased with the lyric about the blind man holding the mask.

Thank you Rob for listening and commenting on ; Today and Everyday. Rittmo and Nadia
continue to write some great songs, and it is a pleasure to sing them!

Rob, I only wanted to say "thank you" for your wonderful words concerning "more beautiful"... :-)

hey Rob - thanks for the comment - napoleon didn't invade, just coveted and lusted from afar - it was our trees he was after!

Hey guy. I had so much going on for the past few weeks that it's been a challenge trying to write, record and anything else. Thanks for stopping by and the mutual appreciation for inspiration. I'll be back before the challenge is over.

Thanks for listening to You Never Know What Words Will Be Your Last. Yes the harmonica is Band In A Box.

woohoo! ;) thanks :D

Thanks Rob, for your supportive comments on 'Come Storm'. Wolf writes great lyrics, and it is
always pleasurably to join him on a song. Now I will plan to get into listening to your works, since I notice we share some influences.

Mike

Thanks for listening to and commenting on It Is No Picnic Without You. The guitar is Band in a Box!

Thanks for all the support! It really means a lot. (:

Rob, sincerest thanks for the time you've taken with my music. I'm glad you enjoyed.
I know your country well and have visited there often. Great passionate people, that throw wonderful crazy parties!
I've added you to my watchlist and hope to get back to listen to more of your music before the 50/90 is over.
wolf.

Thanks for giving our song on Andrew a listen. Hope you always keep your head above water :-)

Thanks for the comments on Like You and Summertime. Yeh, I don't quite get the darts line, either.. Maybe it's like random trying of things (I've heard of decisions made that way with darts). Summertime was my first serious spoken line song.

Thanks for your comment, Rob. Tis most appreciated.

Thank you very much, Rob! Thank you very much for this beautiful song and also for all the efforts you made connected with it! I like it a lot and it is true what Kevin said, in deed, it is difficult to categorize it, which is also a nice aspect… I also like what you did with the lyrics and the usage of the instruments, very nicely done! Thank you!

Thanks for the kudos on my 50/90 song. Like your influences and they show in your stuff.

Hi Rob, as a fellow Arthur Rossi collaborator you might want to check out my song with him: A Better Man Than Me: http://fiftyninety.fawmers.org/songs/9205

Hi thanks for the kind comment on Tinam's, My Toy Phone, wonderful lyrics don't always make you smile : )

Thank you for all of your comments, and for posting ideas for me on the forum. A song was born from one of the ideas (http://fiftyninety.fawmers.org/songs/10415).

Rob, Many Thanks for your great comments on My Special Eyes. You said you only listened to the music..but her lyrics brought forth the music inside me..so they have to have some of the credit. I loved the high praise, but want to share it. But I know you know that. I didn't say this to make you feel bad. It simply dawned on me that I shouldn't feel so happy about all you said. See? (-: Best to you,
Annie

LOL Oh you bet, back in the early 1990s and mid 90s, you bet, if one of the three (!) Finnish TV channels was broadcasting Derrick or Der Alte or Ein Fall für Zwei, my dad would switch to that channel. I guess it was in the 90s when I remarked how horrible the music was in some of those TV series. Anyway, I haven't been watching those krimi's lately but I seem to recall by name Schimanski, Siska, Die Komissarin, Rosa Roth, Capillari... I prefer Salvo Montalbano and the Mediterranean. I lived in Paris suburbs at age 5...7 and I guess I was brainwashed pro Latin aesthetically. :D
Finnish people, at least the older generations, seem to have a tendency to enjoy Schlager and sombre, melancholic music, while I find lighter, pleasant moods in music therapeutic. Almost like an escapist counterbalance to the local traditional norm. And indeed, according to Wikipedia: "Angst appears to be absent from important French music."

Thanks for your generous feedback! I'm glad you listened to Au Bureau and Thysdrus and Googled el Djem (and kind of sorry that you got exposed to the other three tracks, which I'm not so proud of).

For me metacomposing means writing down lots of general rules, a kind of generative musical grammar, so that using i.e. a pseudorandom generator and different probabilities (or weights) for the alternative rules, one can generate concrete instances of that formalized musical language. I studied computer science so I made the algorithm from scratch.

Elegant backing vocal harmonies seems to be one of Izaak's trademarks.

Rob, great to see you here! Wow, you're way ahead of me. :P 18 songs! That's great.

Thanks for listening and commenting on He Is Faithful To Me. I will try your suggestions once the 50/90 is over. Not enough time right now. Thanks again!

Hehe you're right, "Bizarre" doesn't sound that bizarre, especially to me, but during the process of recording, I felt like singing this word along with the melody. Thanks for the comment :)

Thanks for your comment! (Are people in the EU mad at Greece?)

Hi Rob, I do not know if you are up for collaborations (as you have not done any yet), but if you are and if you like, I`d love to invite you to have a look at some of my lyrics and should you find anything that touches you in any way, I`d look very, very forward to an eventual collab...

Yeah Rob smurfing's what I do!

Rob, in mine and I hope I may also speak in Larry`s name, I`d like to thank you a lot for your kind comment on "sleeping dogs". Larry really wrote a fantastic music...

yes! you guessed the Beatles song! congratulations, and thanks for listening!

Thanks a lot for your kind words on "Save Us", much appreciated :)
Yeah I've been using a multitrack for years and I'm still reluctant to switch to DAW but that's the wisest option I have. I know DAWs will bring a lot of new opportunities but I love the feel of my faders and buttons, and wouldn't change if I had the choice.

BTW Rob, I've "won" 50/90 twice with no intention of doing so. I think my key to completion was to just write without any particular goal in mind. I didn't decide to "win" either time until the last month. Rock on!

"...cerveza, helados y mass cola, por favor!..."

Sounds like an order for a rootbeer'n'beer float to me... sounds crazy, but perhaps I'll try one! (but seriously, some pretty important words to know!) :)

historical ipod - hilarious! (this is the real historical ipod )
