BIO:

vignette (vɪˈnjɛt) noun - a short, endearing, impressionistic scene focusing on one moment that gives a particular insight into a character, idea, or setting.

I'll be mainly knocking out short instrumentals using a mix of "real" instruments (guitars, casio keyboards, uke, melodica, synths, mandola, xylophones, various percussion) and VST instruments and samples. I doubt I'll get anywhere close to 50 tunes but it will hopefully be fun seeing how far I get.

Soundboard

Congratulations on reaching 14! Now don't forget to do 50 songs during FAWM next February :-).

Hi! I just wanted to give you some kudos. Your sound is incredible. I have had 'It's a Long Way to the Moon' in my head since I heard it, and I think your remix of 'Come On Down' is just absolutely brilliant. I'm really impressed by your music, and production skills. So I felt the need to go all fanboy and post a comment. :-) Have a good one!

Thank you for your generous feedback! I really appreciate it coming from a fellow musician/composer who uses words like 'vignette' and especially 'impressionistic' and creates nostalgic instrumentals with cool instruments.

"Riviera"
-Bingo! Here's a brilliant sound I was thinking of:

You mention Morricone, the Italian composer. I'm a huge fan of Gianni Ferrio; this Improvvisamente is his composition, his lush orchestration, and conducting. Morricone is one of my favorites too, but I think Manuel de Sica and Gianni Ferrio can be awesome. Stelvio Cipriani is nice too.

"love the pipe organ sound..what sample library is that from?"
-the reed organ sound comes from EastWest QL Goliath

"Parisien blokes in boater hats etc."
-I'm happy. Your comments indicate that we have a similar attitude towards instrumental music; that is, the holistic impression is important; some genres are so cool and some, well, stereotypes are so dear that I simply like to hear and create more of the same oldish stuff; for me, the so-called absolute music is worthless, meaningless, it has no roots; yes, theoretically you could do a melody based on the Fibonacci sequence but that's not meaningful...

"the chord sequence is weirdly excellent"
-YES!! Thank you! I love the weirdly excellent in terms of harmony. That's the stuff I have to listen to over and over again until I get used to it and the weirdness disappears. I'm always in search for more of it. I found it especially in Antonio Carlos Jobim...

I was thinking of these people when I started writing the B section. Then I just camouflaged it with Parisian colours. Hahaha! Now I should fix some of the clumsiest flute trills but I'm terribly lazy.

Gosh, that is all kinds of awesome :D
Very different to how I imagined it, but a fantastic mix.

Oh wow, yay! I wondered if you were hiding around. I meant to tell you ( somehow) that I played your song "it doesn't take a genius" at our wedding in May and the photographer used it on our slideshow... :)

Hang on, hang on, hang on. I just looked at the URLs for your demos - are you "oddbod" from FAWM?!

Hi there, thanks for the love on "come on down". I'm more than happy for you to post your version, would I be able to have a listen first please? :)

Hi, and thanks for the comment on the Isle of May. I agree about the harmonies needing to be stronger, just not one of my strong points, I'm afraid!

hi- just letting you know that the lyric/song of donna's 'his grim jackhammer love' (which you commented on) now has a full demo as a collab, if you're interested.. http://fiftyninety.fawmers.org/songs/9299

Just thought I'd pop by to say your name is genius.
