My mind is about 35, my knees are about 70 - so that makes my age around 50. LOL

I was hoping that I could use this site to make songs from some of my older poems, which will be sprinkled among the new stuff I submit. I know that technically some of these would be pre-50/90, but at the same time, if they are tweaked and put to music then they are essentially something new. Just wanted that info out there, as a form of full disclosure. LOL

I do have a website of quite a bit of my older poetry, some of it in the style I used to like to share (framed and on scenic backgrounds). Unfortunately, that website was at Geocities - which Yahoo shut down. But luckily, another site has saved many of those websites. You just have to change the "G" to an "R" on your old webpage, so it would be reocities. The site is no longer interactive, and some pages are scrambled, but the links to all my poems work. Just saw your lyrics for "this songs needs words" and I love them. Absolutely love them. I've been wanting to have a song about how much I've enjoyed 5090 and the people and the music and how I'm going to miss it all now it's over and what will I do with myself now I'm not checking out the "track" on my page for new posts... And you got it all. Beautifully. Upon entrance at home tonight, I will record a demo and upload it.

Thanks for the offer John, I may take you up on that if it gets right down to the wire although to be honest I'm not really concerned if I don't make 50 songs. Also I suspect that I will churn out lyrics at least for the 50 before the cut off. Like Kiwa I still have a few half-formed songs fragments lying around the place waiting to be finished off so the next two days I'm going to knuckle down and try to sort them out. But I'll keep you posted if I need assistance at the end! :)

Yeah, the wall'o'influences was kind of a joke--I just started adding to it whenever I thought of somebody. I never even noticed I had Buddy in there three times! I like him, but not *that* much. :)

As for my new piece, well, I composed it after I was speaking to you about loosing dear ones so effectively, you are my collaborator already since you put me in the mood for this piece and of course I'll be delighted to collaborate with you on this one too. Adding you as collaborator, hope that's okay :) Oh, about what key it is in, it is in D Major. Many people thing Major is happy but we already had a challenge some time ago on FAWM to create a song which will sound sad and will be in a Major key. I'm with you Leslie - TNG is far and away better, as their shows were 1hr vs 30 mins. and they definitely had the advantage of way better special effects at their disposal.

I have plenty of older lyrics scattered around other sites Adam, but it wouldn't be fair posting them hear. They might be new to the people reading them, but they wouldn't capture the spirit of 50/90... writing something NEW in those 90 days. LOL
I suppose when someone takes old lyrics and puts new music to them - that probably qualifies.
At least you know where to find many of my other lyrics. haha

re: Penelope
I wasn't proposing to muscle in on the collab you already got going. This is a completely different song that just happens to use the same lyric. Not the first time such a thing has happened in the history of
song-writing I would hazard ;) and I can't see it takes anything away from what comes out of your other collab.

The music I've written was composed from the feel of your existing lyric, which I really enjoyed and hence inspired me to write the tune. I'm not sure that shoe-horning a new lyric into the melody now would work quite as well - and the lines of any new lyrics would have to scan in exactly the same way in order to fit.

I've posted the song up on my page. I will edit you in as a collaborator if you wish me to - just let me know. If you really object to me using your lyrics in the song then I will remove it and it will never be heard again except by me.
