BIO:

this is my first 50/90 challenge. i just did my first FAWM this year as well (thanks to the inimitable, Jeff Brown!) :D...i welcome all feedback and will try to return the favor. i'm recording using garageband (either in tracks or completely live as in the improvs i've done so far). for this project, i'm more concerned about the quality of the work than the quality of the recording. although, i'm still learning about recording and would like to go back and get polished stuff later. so, feedback of that nature is welcome, just keep that caveat in mind. :) thanks and enjoy!

here's the bio that i use for my web page:

Kyle Greer is southern boy with classical training turned northern lad. He has an extensive background in both music and theatre. In Chicago, he has performed with theatres such as the Jeff Award-winning Theo Ubique and The National Pastime Theatre as well as queer platforms such as Girlie-Q, Homolatte, Queerpocalypse! and Cake Chicago. He was a regular performer on the dearly departed acoustic Unpugged series at the Wild Pug. He frequently makes appearances with Vaudezilla Productions & Burlesque and on the Wild Party Variety Hour showcasing his song stylings. He also performs monthly at Mary's Attic (as well as other venues) with his band, Fatally Cool, a performance art cover band. Part theatre rock, dark cabaret, and chamber pop, he combines them all for your viewing and listening pleasure.

Soundboard

Congratulations on reaching 33. It's not 50, but still it is an impressive number of songs!

Kyle,
Your version of "many blessings" is great! I love it.
Shortly you'll find it here: http://coldcomfort.bandcamp.com/track/many-blessings-3
Please share it with your friends!

Looking forward to hearing your version of "come storm".
I checked and AIFF files are good for bandcamp, so if they're good for soundcloud could you upload any more songs that way so you get maximum quality.

Glad you're so close to your own cold comfort EP > maybe album. That would be great!

Let me know with each new tune the same way. After I get "come storm" and one more I'll set up the ep page and send you the link.. then you can add to it as you finishe more tunes.

wonderful. Thanks so much, cc

That's great news Kyle.
Glad you're working on a few more CC tunes. Just post them on soundcloud when you're done and let me know. Looking forward to hearing them with the "Kyle treatment" and adding them to the compilation albums.
if/when you get to 4 tracks you can have your own spin-off cold comfort EP which can grow into an album. "cold comfort + kyle greer"
2 collabs have reached that far already and 6 other artists have committed to spin off (EP or album) efforts over fall winter. See the website front page: http://coldcomfort.bandcamp.com
Don't forget to share the tracks with your friends and suggest the idea to any musical buddies you might have.
CC

kyle,
thanks, I've downloaded the song.
I'll expand the mp3 to wav and upload it sometime soon.
The link will most likely be.
http://coldcomfort.bandcamp.com/track/channeling-charlie
check that tomorrow. Let me know if it works.
Thanks again, please feel free to choose a few more so you can have your own cold comfort songs EP!!! Let me know if anything strikes your fancy and I'll make locked collab pages for them.
CC

Kyle, I love your version of chanelling charlie. it's insane and great.
However,
I can't download it from Reverb Nation for the purposes of getting it to upload to the album/s on bandcamp. if you have a soundcloud.com account (free) could you upload a WAV format of the song there for me to grab? (Remember to choose allow download) Let me know when it's available for me.
Thrilled to showcase this magical song with the other great cold comfort collabs.
Please feel free to try on a few more when you have time / energy/inspiration.
Thanks.
CC

Kyle,
Great news I'll look forward to hearing chanelling charlie when it's done and including it on the compilation. It won't be a CD but a digital online album, listen only / no downloads, If you check out http://coldcomfort.bandcamp.com you'll find nearly a dozen songs already posted there and more to come, including multiple versions of the lyrics, as per the project idea..
Your posted song will include a link to your page (reverbnation, I presume) if people want to hear more of your work. And again, please consider tackling more of my lyrics before or after October 1 with the same invitation.
Yes please go ahead and perform your version of channeling charlie live with my blessing (and proper attribution) Tell em "Cold Comfort loves the Windy City" ! How thrilling. Let me know if you video tape a performance of it sometime in the future.
Please remember though that the lyrics to channeling charlie (and all cold comfort songs) are open to any musician who wants to try their hand at an interpretations, so there will be other charlies being channeled in unique and different ways out in the universe.
Hear from you soon.
CC.

thanks, cc! i promise, i'll get on it before this whole thing is finished! ;)

Hi Kyle,
Any luck with "channeling charlie"?
I'm putting together a compilation album of all cold comfort collabs and I hope when it's done you'll allow me to include your track. See my profile page for details.
if you're done before day 90 simply start a new song page called "channeling charlie (kylegreer version), and if you want to be on the album, before or after day 90, upload a CD quality WAV to soundcloud for me to grab. Let me know.

Hey! I already keep listening to „postcards“ all the morning… This is fantastic… Simply wonderful… I really feel honoured, thank you very much! Gorgeous piano and your vocal is truely sensational, and I do not say it just to say it, but I really mean it… Wonderful interpretation…
If I may, I`d like to ask you a favour: Could you send me the mp3-file on my email which is:
arthur(dot)rossi1979(at)yahoo(dot)com
I`d love to save it forever and to listen to it whenever I like…
On another note, I have written some lyrics in French but as it is some time ago it might not be ok if I post them here now. Would you mind if I sent you some of them on your email address? Maybe you could eventually use some of them for something…
Thanks so much once again!

Hey there! I would still love to perform your two part piece if you could get email me the notation in a pdf or something. I wish your demos weren't only over at reverbnation... I would probably listen and comment on more of your recordings if I didn't have to go back and forth between sites... Best of luck!

Hey, what a nice surprise! You are very fast, thanks a lot for this fantastic message, I look very forward to the demo!
By the way, if you like the song to appear "topical", post it again and add the songtext or I`ll add the lyrics afterwards, while I will delete the former version... or if you like, just add it where it is already... to me, this makes no difference, so I`d like to leave it to you... Thanks once again, I can`t wait to hear it! :-)
By the way, good luck for your shows!

Hi, Kyle.
Great. Please be my guest with adding music to "Channeling Charlie". Glad you liked it.
When you're done, simply post it yourself as a new song, cut paste the lyrics, and add me as a collab.
Looking forward to hearing what you do with it. Drop me a line via my soundboard and I'll come have a listen. I'm sure it'll be a great surprise!

YAAAAAAY!!!! :)

FYI - reposted "blackbird" with new mixes on the vocals to have a clearer effect on the vocals. i also reposted "oh, albert square" and fixed as much distortion as i could (i think some was the connection from the keyboard to garageband during the recording).

Hi Kyle. :)
If you want to hear a few songs that engage our shared interest, here's a few links (I don't know if I'll write anything like this during 5090, but we'll see.)
http://psy-t.com/Psy-T_and_Phlex-Yes.mp3
http://fawm.org/songs/11568/
http://fawm.org/songs/14525/
http://fawm.org/songs/16980/
And to a lesser extent, these come from the same source, but don't get as explicit as the former:
http://fawm.org/songs/13653/
http://fawm.org/songs/15182/

I could probably point to the entirety of my artistic work in the last 2 years and it'd all be equally derived from the same source, but there's nothing on the surface about them to indicate as much.

Comment by kylegreer
thank you! i can't wait to check them out! :D

Another fan here... Your vocals are amazing!
Thank you so much for your comment on my alien music. LOL, I have no secret, I have no idea how it came in my head but it just wouldn't leave, it wanted to be created with my old keyboard so I just went with it...

Comment by kylegreer
well, however it came, i love it! ;) i love those old keyboard sounds, too! thanks for the kind words! can't for more tunes! :D

Re your question about suggestions: if you're intent on continuing the improv/live idea then there are so many variables it would take a book to go through enough and I'd be guessing at what you want to achieve. You're right to keep testing. Try small idea experiments (a simple verse chorus verse chorus) and change settings up with each so that when you do sit down to record that you think might end up the "take" you'll feel confident about what you need to do to achieve some particular end result. Clearly you've done loads of exercise and practice with your voice and piano, now it's time to practice and experiment with the "fifth" beatle, technology. You'd have much more control over the finished product of course if you used the improv to jam/ flesh out / sketch out a song idea and, sit down with the full idea for a track and create a finished song from scratch, track by perfectly manipulable track. HOpe this helps a bit, already getting too wordy. wolf.

for all you eastenders fans...watch for a tribute song, coming soon ;)

Thanks, Kyle! I'm juggling a few collabs and hope to start posting stuff soon. Look forward to catching up with more of your great music too. Also, if you're ever up for co-writing, let me know. 50/90 is often a great time to try that out.
