::EDIT::
It's October 1st here in the US, and my 50/90 is over. Today is also my wedding anniversary, so no huge final push to hit 50. I stand at 42, and I'm pleased. Once again, I have written far more than I expected, and received far more feedback than I could have hoped. Congrats to everyone who wrote and contributed. And thanks for listening!

::END EDIT::

I'm a hobbyist musician in the DC suburbs, and have been playing music for the last dozen or so years.

.

FUN FACT!!!! So far this year, I have written or contributed to almost 2 hours of music (116 minutes and counting), with an average song length of just about 3:18. Yay math!

The Really Good Pot Roast has a really good store now! www.cafepress.com/thereallygoodpotroast

::Solo Work:: (as Mark Dabney)

NEW EP!!!: 'Rolodex', out on Bandcamp. http://markdabney.bandcamp.com It's pay what you want, which includes free. Produced by FenderTele71

This music is more serious than I've written in the past. Lyrically a bit more of somber in theme, but with a somewhat acoustic pop rock sound. I've half-jokingly called this my 'Elliott Smith' album, with tracks ranging from the demo roots of 'I'm Disappearing' to the more polished, full band sound of 'What Follows'. Two of the tracks ('Lose Patience' and 'Hide and Seek' are reworked versions from last year's 50/90 challenge)

Album: 'icantplaythislive' on iTunes and AmazonMP3. (http://amzn.to/8Xi2Z9). It's 10 tracks of New Wave Punk Electronica. It was sort of something I just had to get out of my system at the time.

We're working on our follow-up right now.

I'm looking forward to this year's grind to 50 (or, you know, more than 1...)

Words, words, words...

I've been really enjoying your 50 90 CD that you sent. So much stylistic range and great lyrics too! I got 18 songs in order and I hope to have the disc in the mail to you this week.

Not sure if you saw it but the "jonniegrunge made me do it" tag has returned, in the form of http://fiftyninety.fawmers.org/songs/12370 :)

Hi Jonnie, thanks so much for the comment on The Rescue! :)

Grabbed it, thanks. I truly appreciate it.

You should have! ;)

Oh, and challenge accepted http://fiftyninety.fawmers.org/songs/11831

Thanks for the feedback on "You can all get f..." :)

Glad you liked the contrast between ANGRY Kiwa and simple uke ;) ahhaah I figured it went some way to diluting the grumpiness, maybe, kinda.
In saying that, if you wanna make a backbeat, or anything else, to it - go right ahead my friend!

And FoTC RULE! :D

Oh dear, I think so. I'm not sure I *know* how to sing monotonously! I tried this morning when I first read your post and couldn't help but arpeggiolise the melody... It's going to be hard methinks >.<

Comment by jonniegrunge
Just make it a short song. Like a jingle.

Hi JG, thanks for the comment on "I want it all" - Shannon has done a great job musicifying my simple lyrics. I agree it deserves re-recording at a higher production level. I'll contact Shannon and see what we can come up with.

Thanks for the comment on 9 Days :) Glad you liked it, I appreciate it!

Thanks, Mr. Grunge! All good points and true!

ope! nevermind I found it!

I'm glad you liked the song! I didn't know it got played on a podcast! could you send me a link?

Thanks for your comments! I'll hopefully be back to listen to more of your stuff once I have a working internet connection, but apparently it takes AGES to get that sorted! Bloody telecommunications companies.

Interesting....guess someone's listening after all...ha

Thanks very much for your comments on "found my inspiration" and "Club 339". Much appreciated!!

You are the Podcast King.

Just a thought - what do you think about a bossa nova-style beat?
I'm listening to Pink Martini's 'Hang on Little Tomato' at the moment in the car (on my way to playing at a folk festival) and maybe there's something there?

Awesome!!
I wouldn't say it's "littered with requests"... I've just been a bit more proactive about seeking people to work with instead of waiting for them to come to me, and I definitely want to do something with you. Not that I have anything in mind right now, so... do you have anything? hahah

Comment by jonniegrunge
I am currently devoid of ideas. :-P But I'll get to work this weekend! And if you think of anything, you know, share and such.

Thanks for the glowing review of Truth is You Lied. Yeh, it's tough to sort through songs from the 1.53 million on the Jukebox.

ok, I'll give it a a shot at tightening programmed drums first, maybe try a second version with percussion instead. And it's also been suggested that I raise the volume in the mix. Maybe after I tighten drums I'll have the confidence to do this. Thanks so much!

Thanks so much for your feedback on "Circle of Sisters!" Definitely needs tightening on the drums, thanks for your suggestions, I'll probably remove and do some simpler percussion (at least until I've got better drum programming chops).

I would love to hear 'Until It Breaks' punked up. If you want to do it, go for it!

Thanks for your kind words and support Jonnie. I don't have the time at the moment to fully immerse myself in 50/90, hence my appearances here are sporandic and my listening is criminally lacking.

I would like to thank you very much for your very kind words! :-)

Thanks for the encouragement on my 50/90 song. Hey, I like your stuff too.

There is still room for an angry punk version of C&S! And there are lyrics sitting around for the taking over there. It's the C&S challenge! Go for it. (Thanks for the comment--I threw this together in 20 minutes, so it's amusing to hear anyone thinks it's any good :)

Thanks for the comment! :)
Strange that you picked that bass line out there. The bass sound isn't too precise since I did it with guitar and octaver. It does its job, I guess, but I've been thinking of buying a real bass guitar.

LOVE IT!! Packed full of awesomesauce. There should be more songs for the "kiwafruit made me do this" tag ;)
mwuahahahaahhaa

Your "Rolodex" EP is outstanding. I can imagine you playing the whole thing live and having just as enjoyable a listening experience. Great work.

thanks, Mr. Grunge, I have great respect for your stuff, and have a fair amount of catch-up listening to do! I have to admit that I like the punkpopwhateveritis the most. :)

Thanks for the comment on "Cheese rap" I had more fun writing that song than all the rest so far. :)

Thanks very much for your comments on "I can't see tomorrow". Very constructive. I hear what you are saying and some great pointers to help me shape it. Thanks.

Yeah, I sang/wrote 'Break' to a metronome on my keyboard. Not sure what tempo it was though, as my keyboard is so ancient it should be falling into dust any day now and has no screen >.<

Comment by jonniegrunge
Okay. The beat seems like it's somewhere around 180 bpm or so. Might poke around with that a bit... :-)

Thanks for the comment. The apparent smartness of it is all straight outta Wikipedia (which is why it gets a shout out :).

Thanks for the listens. :)

Thanks for your sweet comment :)

Hey, thanks for your kind comments on "When You're With Me." I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Thanks! I'm glad you liked my song. You nailed it. The "Hey" was taken straight out of the song "Hey" by the Pixies. haha. The fishbone part is probably my favorite section too. I think I'm eventually going to end up rerecording the lyrics just to get it more dialed in. Thanks for listening!

Comment by jonniegrunge
I love the Pixies, and I can't fault you for sampling that, especially in that song. Worked really well.

Thanks for the good word on Headsqueezin'!

Just wanted to stop by and tell you that I think you rock. Of course, I'm sure you already know that :D

Comment by jonniegrunge
Billy, you made my day, week, and at least a couple minutes on the side. I can tell you the feeling is mutual.

Here's the MIDI guitar:

Only $200, not the best thing ever but it's pretty cool! Enjoy. :)

Comment by jonniegrunge
Yeah, I think I know what I want for my birthday...

Thanks for the encouraging and thoughtful comments. :)

Thank you for your comment on Dragon's eyes!

thank you so much for the comment you left on my latest song!!

Thanks for the comment on "It's Time". What I was trying to do is something way out of my area of knowledge, so I appreciate the suggestions even more than normal.

Thanks for your comment on Go! Train! :P
I've been trying to learn how to structure my beat loops from the ground up, thanks for your advice... Really appreciate it. :)

hello, JG,
Thanks for the compliments on Cavia Cobaya. I'm going to work some more on the vocals, and I might scrap the electric guitar track. Jacob's drumming was strong, and I hit a few bad notes on the bass, but that's easy enough to fix. The strat I was playing was out of tune, though (still don't know why I didn't tune it) and I'm not quite happy with my playing, so I've been practicing better fills and leads. I'm either going to use my Telecaster or borrow David's Les Paul for the next go round. Probably still plug into the JCM 900. Don't know...may wait until the Blackstar HT 60 that I've got on layaway is finally all mine.

Anyway, the bone structure is there, so I probably need to just let this one simmer awhile before fiddling around with it. Thanks a bunch and keep on rockin'!

Hey, thanks for your nice comments on my songs. I look forward to hearing yours. (So much stuff to listen to, so little time...)

Thanks for comments on "(No Longer) Stuck on You!" I always have difficulty pegging the genre of my music, and I dig '80's pop (and I'm old enough to remember it), thanks for helping me with that!
