BIO:

Singing forever and songwriting for a few years, maybe 6? AT some point, I jumped in. Big, big fan of FAWM and 50/90 and the community, and I support local songwriting groups when I can. Did you know that all you have to do to be a songwriter is to say, and feel free to say it loud and proud, "I'm a songwriter." Deal with the funny looks and dumb questions after.

Songs this summer are raw. I keep trying to get better at the guitar and I don't mind recording, but it sucks up time better spent grinding out some more lyrics or wondering how to make a melody stand out more.

I'm fi'nining this summer. Join me here, won't you?

9/30 update: I have several songs that are done but not recorded, hence the last minute locked additions. I will probably delete one or two later when I decide not to bother.

Soundboard

Oh for crying out loud, now what.

Hi John!

Dude, it HAS some Gerald Teacup now!

Yes, it certainly seems that way. I suppose the question is: can I keep it under control, or will it eventually consume me? Who cares. At this point I'm just enjoying myself. That, and avoiding having to face the work I'm going to have to put into "fixing" our collab. All these damn CRITICISMS to sort through! :D

John, the feminist has attempted rational argument, logic, and derision. The princess will not be swayed! Plus, "waste my breath" sets up the last 2 lines far too nicely for me to be swayed by your rational suggestion. I don't have to listen! *stamp stamp* *pout*

Uh oh. I thought I knew what side I was on.. ;)

Hey John :)

Many thanks for taking the time to stop by and take a listen to Demon. I'm really pleased you enjoyed it - I had a blast writing and recording it. ;)

thanks for comments on my songs. i agree about the tremelo guitar in "out of my mind"...but by the time I finished I didn't want to revisit it and fix it. i would probably take it out for a lot of the song and just have it in for effect at certain points. :)

So...I've got this recipe sitting over here. You up for some jelly makin'? :)

Wow, thanks so much for your kind words on "Circle of Sisters!" And thanks for the great suggestion about percussion vs. drums - I am not comfortable with what exists and I think I can pull off the eggs, tambo, or clavs or whatever. And funny enough, I'm visiting my sister now, she could definitely help (though she hasn't heard the song yet, kind of wanted to polish it up first). Also a good observation about lyrics, I had to work in the extra syllables but wish they didn't exist. Not sure how to deal with that one. . . Thanks again!

Hi John, I am very amenable to you adding music to batteries not included, I have added you as a collab. Thanks for jumping in.

Hey John, it was good to meet you and thanks for the chat around the campfire.

Thanks for your kind words on 'Rain'! Man, I'm so jealous that you live near someone doing 50 90 -_-

Thank you very much John for your nice comment on my collaboration with Darci on I will fly :)

Thanks very much for your kind words about my silly songs!

Actually, Kristian and I are taking a break. We're too wrapped up in 50/90, and I've been singing the praises of FAWMstock in the hope that he'll come to next year's. Sooo.. I guess that means I'm free to collaborate. If you want to? It's much more convenient that we'll have waited until now to do so. ;)

Aha! I have now caught up on your wonderful collection of songs. I'll do my best to keep up for the rest of the summer. :)

...and I have every intention of being there next year. It looks like you all had a great time. I love what I got to see and hear from various posts. Never been to Wisconsin. This would be a great time to do so.

Comment by john crossman
Big :) to that!

Thanks a lot for the kind response!

Hi, I liked to listen to your songs. I do not know if you are up for collabs or not, but if you are and, of course, if you like and if you can afford the time, may I invite you to have a look at some of my lyrics in the hope of an eventual collab if you find anything you could use...? Thanks a lot...
kind regards

Xman or 'Jesus of Madison'... whatever.. you'll always be JX to me.

Thanks for the comment on 'Can't help myself.' I completely agree on the third line of the chorus. It is still bothering me, but so far nothing has popped into my rattled head to take it's place. The 'in spite' line will most likely change from 'In spite of all the things that we've been through' to 'In spite of all the things you've put me through' which is still the general 'in spite' but to a specific you've done me bad sort of thing. Not quite what you mentioned but I think that will work. And I agree the 3/4 stanzas or 2nd verse (whichever) are boring. It needs some tension.

That's one of the best comments I've gotten and I truly appreciate it. Thank you very much.

I have a new nickname for you, if you don't mind. "Xman" is so 2010. Now I think of you as the "Jesus of Madison" :)

Hi John thought I'd give it a go. Good to see you here!

I suppose I have. I will be in touch with you soon.

Crossman...we've unfinished business, you and I. Are we gonna ante up at some point?

Very glad you're here in 5090. Looking forward to plenty more songs from you.

John Crossman....? You know what's up, buster. Sure you do. And if not, then just ask me. Do it. Dooo it.

Mr Crossman, always a pleasure sir. Now where be your songs? :)

Hi John! Thankyou for your kind comments (: and yes I did add a demo. http://fiftyninety.fawmers.org/songs/6746

John, thanks for your kind comments about my song, must just grin,
I've added you to my watchlist and I'm looking forward to hearing some of your output this 50.90
regards, wolf.

Ah, bien jugado! y muchas gracias por la nueva palabra: 'el reto'. Buena suerte tambien a tu. :)

Hi John - I must say, your message area header line cracks me up! Better than anything I've read lately. Yep, even works when I read it again. How about a song full of that attitude, huh? No pressure or anything. (This is probably exactly what you were afraid of. Okay, right.) Oh well. Barbara

I choose the less coy option. You're in it to win it, eh? The big five oh? Good the lucks!

Thank you for providing me with a song title :)

i do try... love the yoda on a stick. mmm, yoda.

So THIS is what a true artist's soundboard looks like!

U Rock Sir...looking forward to ur tunes!

that yoda is fitting, as you are "the master"........ Or is it the uncanny resemblance?

Glad you're here, thanks for saying "hey".
For this 50/90 I know you are going to "bring it".
Also, you're kind of a nice dude.

Hey John! :)

I'm so up for that. Let's aim to start on it in July, and hopefully we'll get it done by the time I see you again :D

I'm ready...and I'm already watching you!

love it. teacher = cheater.. Thanks for the thumbs up. It feels good to get started. Looking forward to your new tunes this 50/90!

Heya, JX. Glad to see you about. You had a killer FAWM. Be well.

I think Mr Binky is planning to drive across to Chicago. Nancy had an idea for somewhere we could all stay. Yay!

You're a sweetheart, you are, John :)

Hey John! "Ever ready to rock" sounds like an excellent album title. Honestly, I'm just freakishly addicted to songwriting. Probably because it's my therapy. :P

hi John Crossman, well, it's not likely to be plenty of new Calum Carlyle songs, but maybe one or two. Hope you have a great 5090! Looking forward to hearing some songs from your neck of the woods too.

If I were John Crossman, Ya ha deedle deedle, bubba bubba deedle deedle dum. All day long I'd biddy biddy bum. If I were John Crossman.

* waves excitedly *
We'll see - I have no excuse this time :)
