INFLUENCES:Oh, sooooo many. My taste ranges from blues to classical to folk to jazz to pop to rock - and has even come to include rap and heavy metal (thanks to FAWM's own Calum Carlyle and sapient, respectively (-: ). Inspiration comes from everywhere.

BIO:

I'm Canadian, born in Toronto, but live in Delft, the Netherlands. I'm a copyeditor by day, a lyrics writer by night.

This is my third 50/90. Not sure how far I'll get. There's a probable trip to Canada in August. Still, a handful of lyrics/songs will be better than none.

As well as writing new lyrics, I'm using the opportunity this year to update and post a few revised/rewritten lyrics, and/or to post former FAWM or 50/90 songs that now have completed demos.

I'm also to be found here. A lovely forum full of FAWMers. ;)

***UPDATE 13.08: I've WON! (-: I've met my personal challenge, which was to get a handful of lyrics/songs up before I take off for Canada. (-: I'm 100% satisfied. If I manage to fit in one or two more before August 27 - or October 1 - that'll be a bonus. (-:

30.09: Back in Delft, and still chuffed about my 38 posts. (-: Now, roll on FAWM! (-:

Soundboard

I love getting messages on my soundboard. (-: It would be wonderful as well if you'd take a moment to comment on one of my lyrics/songs.
I'll do the same for you. In fact, I probably already have. (-:

Thank you so much Donna for your beautiful comments on What to say and enchanted lake. It was so much fun to collaborate!

Thanks for activating the download Donna, very much appreciated :)

Thanks for the comment a while back on my WWI song! Glad the topic interests you... it was my first time writing about that war.

Hi Donna :)
I haven't had any internet connection without driving to the next city, and by the time my day is done at the wildlife shelter, I've been too bushed to trek over to a McDonald's to get on the internet :( It's driving me a little nuts. I can pop on for a few minutes, then I lose my connection.) Anyway, I'll be having a good time going through your songs while I'm in Nevada this week :)) And I'll even be trying to post a few of my own, G*d willing.... we'll see how it goes ;)

Thanks for your comment of the lyrics to "A Season in Hell's Kitchen!" Here is the recording: http://fiftyninety.fawmers.org/songs/10264

Hi Donna, thanks for dropping by and taking the time to listen to "come away" much appreciated.

Donna, great to see you here!

thanks again for the sweet words, donna! i definitely love the celtic infusion as well! ;)

Thanks for the kind song comment. I've put up the lyrics now, and I'll try to do the same in the future. :-)

Well, heck, I was gonna' work on "Riders" some more :)
Looks like I let that one in a little TOO green--I had it a week or so too!Mea Culpa
I think I incorporated all your suggestions in one form or another except maybe one
Thanks Donna

Thanks for your comment! I appreciate the support. (:

Thanks for the feedback on "Time Waster." I've been having a hard time getting songs completed so I'm stuck posting just the backing tracks and hoping the rest will come along later.

Donna, thanks for the comment on "I Have Learned About Myself." Here's the recording: http://fiftyninety.fawmers.org/songs/8888

ps. Oh cool you're singing now! I'll be sure to come back a give a listen :)

I'm completely flattered. You're like the lyrics master around here so when you call the lyric excellent it means a lot. Thanks!

Right... now that I've calmed down. Here's a happier one
http://fiftyninety.fawmers.org/songs/9269

Ooh, thank the faeries for that, I was wondering if it was too angry to post here, glad you thought it retains a little charm. :)

Donna, thank you SO much for your comments on my songs! I really appreciate it - your comment on 'Darlings' just totally made my day! :)

Thanks for the comments on my nowhere song Donna, I had a lot of fun with the whole process of that one.

thanks for the comments, and congrats on passing the halfway mark!

Hi Donna, yes, would love to give On The Brink if no one grabs it before I get back, thanks :)

Yeah, On getting along and C after 1st V--that works--I had it in my head that the C wouldn't work after the first V, but I guess I must have done some tweaking after that--50/90 'bout overloads my one track mind . It shall be done
Thanks Donna

Hey Donna! Thanks for the comment, always appreciated :)

Hi Donna, thanks for taking the time to listen to "i remain", Wolf's influence on this one was significant and made for a very interesting exercise in song craft for me.

Hi Donna, Thanks for the listen on Nuclear Dominoes. By the way, the tracks that I used for most of the industrial noise were posted by a fellow that claims to have actually recorded them on site. Something sort of spooky started to congeal and then took on a life of its own. I did a bit of research and also collected a bunch of rather chilling photographs. Hopefully, I can find some time to assemble them into a slide show and turn this into a video. I didn't start the summer with social commentary in mind, but sometimes when you have a mouthful, you just gotta say so.

Thank you donna! I didn't know how easy that was to fix... I have almost all of them converted so that they can be easily listened to. I will check some of yours out later this evening!!

Hi Donna, I would like to thank you very much for your kind comment on "just another year"... really got very glad when having been reading it...

Thanks for the positive feedback on two of my lyrics. I'm glad you enjoyed them.
I've taken your good advice about finding collaborator musicians and it's worked out very well so far. I'm dying to hear the results. Thanks again.

Hey Donna! Mediafire doesn't let me stream so if you click under the tool bar you can go right to the download. It would be great if you had a listen:) thank you for your kind words. writing that song helped me put some things together.

hi Donna, i just wondered if you'd got anywhere with that collaboration we were doing, let me know if you need any further input from me please.

Hi Donna :) Thanks for the advice on the file hosting. I tried signing up for fileden, but they haven't gotten back to me with an email confirmation, so I'll have to investigate what's up. I'm back to traveling tomorrow, then pretty much out of internet connection till the weekend... it's gonna be a long summer...! (Actually, it will wind up going WAY too fast, like it always does anymore, lol! I need more time to catch up on listening, and even coming up with a few songs of my own. At the moment I'm fighting with recording one for Nadia. Can't get the volume to work right - just thought of a setting I'm going to go try changing! Back later to listen to more!

New pic! Nice. I'm pretty sure I can see myself reflected in those glasses.

Comment by Donna Devine
I'm sure you CAN see yourself, Rod. The glasses are big enough to reflect a whole city. (-:

Thanks for listening to Summer Song, Donna and for the encouraging comments!! :D

Thanks Donna... I'm a little frustrated right now because I have about 5 songs that are done musically but I can't quite bring them home lyrically. Plus it's 100 degrees here, and my brain has just shut down.

Thanks Donna. Yes it does make sense to change they "catching eye" line in End this Pretense. Thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks Donna! I'll add the music to Observer this weekend. :)

Thanks for the comments, Donna! I finally joined in the fun. ...(even though I will never get to the 50 mark! ;) )

And besides that, tied up at twelve--I'm sure glad you're not going to do much on 50/90 this year, otherwise I guess you'd a' probably had me doubled up!! :)

Hi Donna, you are so right on in that critique of "getting over you" - I like the suggestion of "scars that won't fade" because that line really applies to past situations that time has already worked on but can't erase, while the rest of the verse applies to the current situation, which is the fresh wound. Thanks for applying your attention there!

"""""Amazing! Last night within minutes of each other we each posted a lyric involving "twang". :) Then today, an hour apart, we both posted a lyric about dying. I think our Muses must be cousins. (- """"""""""""""
""""""""""""""I noticed that last night and sure'nuff this morning. I won't comment on the cousins thing but the muses must've happened onto the same wavelengths or at least crossed paths . Maybe the cosmic forces were in alignment or something
I've done been outside and watered stuff so it's time for hot chocolate
Y'all keep things moving along

Hi Donna, thanks for the lovely feedback on The Letter - it's one of those ones where the lyrics arrived first and the music took a little while to emerge from the recesses of my mind so I'm very glad to hear that the two work together despite the delay between them :)

Hey Donna. Thanks for the various comments. I'm a little overwhelmed by this place I think (also maybe going through one of those less-confident times right now). So much to listen to... I feel like I've neglected your songs. I will get to them, promise. I appreciate that you're listening to mine.

thanks for your comment, I don't know why I didn't notice that about the pov..clever. Thanks

Thanks for the comments on "Train Lament" Donna. Every one of those reasons has made me late for work at times. Someone stealing the copper wire from the overhead lines was the most bizarre.

I have just been reading through and listening to your songs. Beautiful lyrics

Peter

Hi Donna, thank you for the kind comments on "rose marie" you highlighted the lyric I was most pleased with in the song, I'm glad you noticed it but then again you would expect you to as you are a very fine lyricist. I was temtped to continue the Silently, Secrectly trick but I contained myself to three despite the temptation.

Once again thank you for taking the time to listen and comment.

Comment by Donna Devine
You're welcome, Gerry. ;) Good decision not to continue the Secretly/Silently/Stupidly trick. Often less is more. (-:

Demo update for "Talking To Daisy": I've got the music worked out for it, so I should be getting a rough demo (with vocals, possibly harmonica) to you sometime in the next few days.

Comment by Donna Devine
Excellent, alfalfa. Thanks. (-:

Thank you Donna for your comments, beautiful accupella's Donna, your voice is incredible for these! Perfect fit, I really love them. I'll try and get back when I have more time to comment!

Hey Donna, glad to see you in 5090 too! Thanks for the comment :) Let me know if you have anything that you would be interested in collaborating on this time around... I know fawm didn't work out but I definitely have time now.

Hey Donna! Glad you're back for another 5090. Have been trying to have a listen to a couple of your songs but they're not working for me at the moment :( Dunno if the site we're they're posted is down or some weird reason - others seem to have managed. I'll try again later though :)
