INFLUENCES:I've been listening to a lot of The Mars Volta, Radiohead, At The Drive-In, and Sufjan Stevens recently. Also influenced by the following: Elton John, Dream Theater, The Beatles, Tears for Fears, Billy Joel, Muse, CSN&Y, Boston, Steely Dan, Yes, Fleetwood Mac, Led Zeppelin, Genesis, Fall Out Boy, David Bowie, Trespassers William, Sigur Rós, Eric Clapton, Jackson Browne, Heart, The Doobie Brothers, Pink Floyd, Queen, Coldplay, Styx, The Eagles, Michael Jackson, Journey, Kansas, Meat Loaf, The Who, Lady Gaga, Supertramp...

Gah, I really need to edit and clean up this box.
I also have a song that I'm going to post as soon as the exquisite corpse is done--my part of the song was originally a song in itself before I cut it down to size to fit in the game.
But for the record, just about everything I've done since song nine, up until "run away", has been adapted/inspired by my most recent NaNoWriMo novel. So I suppose it's a concept album. And, now that I suppose I've finished it, here's the order of the tracks:
1) two years
2) six feet under
3) nothing happy today
4) things and memories
5) someone like you, someone like me
6) i want to know / a cold and drowsy humor
7) ghosts (part one: voices in my head / part two: guy fawkes)
8) jasper
9) peace and war
10) in my defense / stay with me
11) i cried myself to sleep last night
12) tetraplegia
13) run away
14) the vanilla sky
15) gabriel's horn
a) the beginning of the end
b) i ran, and then i ran some more
c) lies, lies, lies
d) delirium
e) in the lake tonight
f) i'm worthless
g) hyperventilating
h) the air's grown cold, and there's nothing you can do
i) i don't know
j) i've got no control
k) the murdering ghost that you cannot ignore
l) nothing will be easy again
OK, for Gabriel's Horn, I've spent about twenty hours on it so far, writing it and recording it and editing it and re-recording it and editing it again and spicing it up and recording it a third time. The song has just snowballed on me, but I like it a lot, though I'm still deciding if it needs a "part zero", which would be a short and simple instrumental opening (similar to Horizons and Supper's Ready). As it is, the twelve parts are already thirty-two and a half plus minutes already.
If you're new to my work, or are looking for something to look at, Gabriel's Horn would be a good place to start. If you don't wanna look at something that big, or have already seen it, or want to know what else to see, I'd recommend the collabs and the ones marked favorite.
For the first time ever, I'm actually making some rough a capella demos of my songs (at least the ones that aren't already done by someone else. If nothing else, they'll give people a sense of how I hear it, so that it's just not lyrics on the page. Though by all means, if I've a demo up, if you wanna record your own version and make it a collab, feel free to. Oh, and sorry for having to hear me sing. :-)
I live in Illinois but go to college in New York.
I listen to a lot of stuff, but it boils down to classic rock, prog rock, and pop rock. With a few exceptions.
Really, most of my songwriting is lyrically. I have very little, if any, musical talent, but I can do lyrics. If anyone wants to record my lyrics with their music, feel free to. Just drop me a note saying that you're going to do it first. Also, I have no problem with you taking liberties with my words to make it fit your music better, and I'm not the kind of person who will be like "but that's not what I pictured". I've had songs done completely differently than I pictured them being done before, but at the same time they've come out just as good as what I had in mind, if not better. So feel free to adapt my lyrics to suit your needs.
I completed FAWM in 2008, 2010, and 2011. I didn't do FAWM in 2009, but I did do (and complete) 50/90 that year. I've also won NaNoWriMo for the last three years. I finished short in 50/90 last year as well.
I also finally created a ReverbNation. Still figuring it out but I'll get it. Anyway it's here: http://www.reverbnation.com/mrwindupbird
