BIO:

Michael Michalski, a.k.a. Chasing Andromeda, has been involved with music for the better part of 40 years. Bitten by the bug early in his formative years, he took an interest in brass instruments first, starting with tuba, followed by horn and trombone.

In high school, he started dabbling with string instruments, notably cello, bass, guitar and banjo. Obtaining his degree in Music Education, Michalski joined the ranks of music educators for almost a decade. During his tenure, he arranged for many of the ensembles he directed, particularly marching band. He still arranges for marching band, concert band, jazz ensemble and chamber ensembles.

During this time, Michalski discovered the Commodore 64 computer with Master Composer software and started using this setup for arranging and composing. Shortly thereafter, MIDI 1.0 was introduced. Michalski was an early adopter, using his C64 and a Casio CZ-101. Throughout the course of the next decade, Michalski added outboard gear including Ensoniq, Yamaha and EMU synths as well as an Ensoniq sampler. During this time, he was busy doing custom arrangements for performers as well as using his MIDI rig in place of pit orchestras for local musical productions.

Today, Michalski is as busy integrating technology into his workflow as he was a decade ago and his musical vision is essentially the same. With eclectic listening habits, his music tends to fuse elements from a variety of genres without ever leaving the space of pop for too long. His music speaks to the inner joyfullness in all of us.

Post whatever your little ol' heart desires!

Back from vacation and ready to roll!!

Gone fishin'. Be back in a week.

Thanks, Andromeda. The mix still has a ways to go, but it's going to get there!

Bloody likely----------
"""These are fun...they would work in a truckload of genres.""
Right on! I considered changing "It ain't bloody likely" to "It's not bloody likely" which might broaden it out even more--Still considering that
Thanks for the comment

Hi Michael,
Barbara got her version of A Loaf Of Bread up, if you're still interested in putting up another version
I wound call hers Country Gospel, so there shouldn't be any conflict with what you had in mind

Thanks for the comments Mr Andromeda!

If you want to sample any of my stuff feel free. If you'd like me to send you any particular track or part of a track let me know.

Thanks for the comment on Ukey Blues
On Loaf Of Bread, Barbara got held up for a bit but should get something up in a little bit.
I'd call her version something like Bluegrass Gospel It will no doubt be considerably different from what you had in mind so it would work out well I would think

sure can try lyrics. .. not sure I have the hypnotic thing going on!

Thanks for your comment on 'Fake It'. With the slow start I'm getting, I'm actually kind of glad you didn't stop by any sooner :D

Thanks so much for your kind words on my Rush trainwreck -- and yes, hitting the drum machine at random does not make me Neil Peart ... sad but true ...

Thanks for commenting on Please Leave! The drums were actually just a kick drum that I sampled, then dropped an octave. It definitely gives a taiko-esque sound that I love.

Thanks for the comment on Ukey Blues.
It's another lighthearted one but the next one will probably be a more serious one called
"Still Will The Flowers Bloom"

Hi Michael, Back to "A Loaf Of Bread"--The muse wasn't cooperating with Barbara very good, so I sent her my head tune, which comes out generally some kind of country unless I make a special effort, so---She's going to try a country version but suggested that we leave it open for other versions also--If you're still interested in doing a renaissance type version, feel free to work on it. I could definitely hear it that way. If you've moved on to other things, that's not a problem. 50/90 is a long haul, maybe I'll write something else that'll spark the muse
Thanks for the interest regardless

Re: John Cage comment... Would you believe I had never heard of him til after I posted this and someone pointed out that I did the same thing. I would have been hesitant to do it if I had known that it already existed.

Thanks for the comments on Nuclear Dominoes. For me, history is a great source of inspiration. I do believe that many of the samples that I used here are actual recordings from the area around the Chernobyl site, but I have no idea of the time frame. I'm always a bit apprehensive about posting works like this for fear of the reception that it will receive because I know that this is not everybody's cup of tea.

Cheesecore! Love it. I've tagged. Fancy writing a cheesecore song as well?

Hi Michael, I'd sure like for you to do something I wrote.
Barbara already put in a maybe on it though.
Medieval instruments would seem right in order as far as that point.
I can write stuff like this when I manage to break out of my usual country mindset
I really figured this would be an ugly duckling 50/90 wise--Whatta' I know?

Well, if this doesn't work, I'll try to write some more in a similar vein.
I've got a couple pieces of other stuff lined up to work on, but I'll start thinking along that line

S'cuse the mini novel here, but I think the Rubaiyat is some of the most beautiful writing ever--Makes you wonder sometimes, how much we've "progressed"

Huzzah! Forgive me if it takes awhile to get back to you. I currently have no internet at my house, so it may take several days...

Ok, cool :)

Yes, sounds totally cool, thank you for asking :) Is there anything on my board without collaborators you find inspiring or shall i create a piece? If you'd like something different, please let me know what mood you prefer. Thank you Michael.

Greetings, comrade!

Hey, thanks for listening to my tunes! Speaking of old-sounding, scratchy recordings, a few months back, I recorded a cover of Mississippi John Hurt's "Nobody's Business" in a single-take through one microphone and then morphed the track into an old 78 record: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/14088429/Nobody%27s%20Business%201928%20version.mp3 :-)

Man-o-man what I'm gonna do to that!! ;) Check your email for the particulars and we're off!!

...whip it,yo. And make it tasty!

Absolutely. :)

Ahem...I'd like a track bed please, heavy on the experimentation side. You'll hit me up when it's ready, yes?

Thanks for the comments on 40 Miles.
Billy always does good work

Thank you a lot for your comments on my two songs! And for the encouragement... and for the kick in the butt... I need that every now and then :p Overall, mixing (or trying to mix) electronic and orchestral is sort of my "theme" for this 50/90. I'm getting pretty confident with the orchestral overall, just need to work on the electronic I feel. That's also why I chose electronic drum samples for the opening track, as I hope to keep an electronic element with me throughout the score and I wanted the opening track to reflect on the score as whole.

Either way, thanks and... yeah...portfolio... I'll get to that... after 50/90... I promise...

Thanks for you comment on my song "In Security". I'm still working on the music, and your suggestion helped me get a handle on it. Thanks again.

Thanks for the welcome. This should be a fun/interesting 90 days. I'm excited to see what comes from it.

Thanks for the comment, man! Never heard of The Frills--they're pretty good :]

Hi, guy! Well, my gear had to be dismantled and overhauled. Not sure when all things will be a go. I'm working on it currently but in the meantime I'll just enjoy what everybody else is servin' up for sonic consumption.

Thanks for the congrats re: the KVR contest! 50/90 starts soon - have fun! :-)

LOL, about the only gearing up that I "might" do before 5090 is to tune up my uke. Of course I will probably just wait until the 4th and stress myself out over nothing being ready :)

Street Signs...use them

Thanks for the greetings, KVR comrade! Have a great 50/90 yourself! I plan to have some fun with it - maybe write the kinda stuff I usually don't: a kids song, a pseudo-opera song (based on my co-worker's awful pseudo-opera!), etc, etc. Whatever. We shall see! Cheers! :-)

*tips hat*

I sense more electro-musings from myself this year - I reckon a collab or two could be on the cards? :)

Very, very psyched! :D

Hellll yeah!! Represent for the electronic artists!! Great to see you're here too :)

Hey, Michael, hope you're doing well. Looking forward to hearing your music, as always.
