Yay!!!! Winning!!! :D

I know you said you wanted to stop at 49, but I couldn't post the song with your lyrics and not add you as a collab... http://fiftyninety.fawmers.org/songs/12370

If you want to stay on 49, I can remove you, no probs :)

hey belated thank you so much for your so totally nice comments on my song. Maybe i'll get to play it in a tiny cabaret sometime. I'm totally looking up Marc Blitzstein. If he's more menacing and less sweet than I am, I bet we'll get along. Thanks ten million and congratulations on 49!

D00d r u serious it's the 30th and you are at 49 songs the tension is killing me!!!11

Updated the lyrics -- you can leave bass and drums to me if you're pushed for time ... and I think we can update songs after the deadline anyway ...

Hey Tom, you are teasing us with that 49, the last one is going to be an epic, is it? Let me know if I should tweak the 1979 lyrics to make them more writable ...

One more, Tom! Come on! I'm gonna move that toe!

I was just gonna plop it into your Number 38 song - though I reckon it might not get as many hits...

Whatever you think... I like this song more every time I hear it! Thank you so much for the kick on this.

I have turned #38 into my own piece of Partridge-esque pomposity, linked below. Let me know if you're OK with it and I'll post it (or you can).

At this moment, I like it a lot.

*grins* very believable! I'm glad there's a drum track! You doing okay?

I had no problem with that "horrid mess", but yeah, I probably need a version without.

I am back in the saddle, and have nothing to do but music this weekend, so I'll be doin' up #38...

So what did you have in mind for A Question Answered?

Like I said... you're my muse. :)

Wow we're like opposites, I've got 48 to do and you've done 48. Special.

That is awesome. I have recorded the audience from the big uke jam tonight chanting that, you're going to have to record the vocals of that story methinks, and a song we shall make :)

Also Jane and I did 3 songs tonight. Thanks for the encouragement!!

""" "I am "----Go Tom Go!!!!!!

Hahahaha I'm sorry! You're right, of course there are two!

3 tomorrow morning?! Oh god. I have about 3hrs between waking and needing to leave for day 3 of festival. Challenge accepted.

And thanks for the supportive push :) I so badly want 50 this year, I feel so close even though I'm still in the 30s... *sigh*

Hey Tom,

I finally had some more concrete thoughts about your "Number 38", and I'd like to take a shot at it if it's OK. I can't promise guitar solos, at least not yet...

For classical music, yes, it's a good thing... ;)

Hello! How are things going?

Yep, I've heard about the struggles in Flint, rough times indeed. I did my own union song a couple of weeks ago http://fiftyninety.fawmers.org/songs/9703

Hi Tom! I've been watching Star Trek: TNG episodes and Data keeps doing awesome things, worthy of song. It started with watching the episode where he feels emotion for the first time, and I knew I wanted to do a parody of Katy Perry's 'Kissed A Girl', called 'Killed A Borg'. Kristian set it up for me and autotuned my vocals: http://fiftyninety.fawmers.org/songs/10912 This poem of Data's is so great, I wanted to add to it. :)

Thanks for your kind comment on Fun in the Sun

Thanks for the comment on "Walking Away from Summer." I really appreciated it. It's funny, usually when people comment they're just like "good song, good lyrics, good job" or whatever unhelpful pat on the back sort of stuff. Which is nice, and I love it when people enjoy my music and comment on my work, but it was actually good to hear that you thought I could have done better. I have a feeling I'll be revisiting that one when all this is over.

Hey Tom, Belated thanks for your feedback on "My Love's in Charleston." In high school music camp I was in the lowest level music theory class. I never improved. In fact, your feedback on the theory in my song is way over my head. It's embarrassing. And I blame the fact that I never learned to play piano. But as a result I rely strictly on it "sounding" right. I choose chord progressions the exact same way. I admit "My Love's in Charleston" has a very different sound than what I usually compose, but I think that's why I like it - a bit off but also something classic at the same time. However, I'm open to suggestions if you think something would "fit" better - I would definitely need your assistance because I'm at a loss for what I could do. Regardless, I'm really touched that you put all that thought into my song - thanks so very much!

Thanks for your very nice comments on "Right Now!"

Ha, not likely. But you are welcome to alphabetize them yourself. :)

Thanks for the heads up. Boxstr's been giving me trouble so I'll move it to a different site.

Thanks for the positive comments on Right Now. Oh, and uh, I love your sound and songs, man!

Hey Tom. Just wanted to go all fanboy for a minute and comment that I really dig your sound. You have a great production quality, and a consistently awesome guitar-forward rock sound. You, sir, rock.

Thanks for listening to We Must Learn From Our History. Sorry it has taken so long to get back to your question. The tracks are done with Band in a Box.

Hey Tom, Cool that I'm coming up on Jukebox, I can never get it to even play!

Trying to remember chords for "My Love's In Charleston" - maybe G C G C E G C. Is it the E that's getting to you? Any suggestions on what to change it to? I think I originally liked it because it was unexpected. But I want it to sound good to other ears too!

Thanks for your kind comment and for posting it in the recommended songs thread. I'm completely flattered.

hey! thanks for the comments :)

you asked about my guitar and recording chain on "don't be weird"

the guitar is a hofner verythin ct. i'm recording on a macbook using garageband with an apogee duet as the interface, plugging the guitar in directly. i'm going for a sound that i can conceivably reproduce live as a 3-piece band, so there's exactly one guitar track, with the following effects chain (all software):

- gb's native chorus, with a medium intensity and zero speed, resulting in no warble but a nice big stereo sound
- "audiodamage fuzzplus2", which is an au plugin i found online (i.e. not gb native) with the dials all at about 12
- gb's "american gain" amp simulator. the quiet/loud bits are switching the pre-gain between about 2.5 and 10
- and then a smidge of reverb over the whole shebang

i was so pleased with the guitar sound on this track that i saved the effects chain as a preset, and have since used it on redshift and watch out as well (though redshift is a different guitar - a gibson "faded" double-cut LP).

this essay brought to you by the letters t, e, and a.

Thank you so much for the wonderful comment... also, thank you for the correction. When I re-do the song I will use the correct pronunciation. I also need to do that for Oregon. I'm sure that it's my North Dakota accent sneaking in. I would hope though, that if I was still a resident of WI I would say it correctly. Since MI was my state neighbor.

"""""""""buried vocals are a sin of great antiquity for me. """"""""""
There surely must be a song title there somewhere :)

Thanks--I don't hardly know Mendelssohn, outside of the symphonies.

Mendelssohn?

Thanks for the flurry of comments. Did your wife find the Eigner backstory illuminating?

I have heard Scott Miller's songs, but haven't listened for a while. It's quite a comparison. Thanks.

Wow - thanks Tom! Kurt Weil-like? hehe I had to look him up to realise he was the Threepenny Opera composer :) No drums needed, huh? Okey-dokey. Thanks for checking that out for me :)

Um, would you mind having a listen to the collab I did with Wyatt? I really think it needs drums of some sort and maybe strings but I would appreciate your view on that (seeing as how my musical ability/knowledge stops quite short at uke!) :) http://fiftyninety.fawmers.org/songs/8115

Ok, ok! No worries, I'll wait :)

hehe - with 25 songs up I'd hardly call you a slacker :) no pressure!! honestly!!! was just thinking of updating the dodgy vocal guide I've got up on Muse with a dodgy mixdown of the lovely track you sent me and the vocal track I recorded to give people a better sense of where the song was heading. So if you're cool with that I'll go ahead and load it up tonight (my time) and then whenever you get a chance to turn your mind back to Muse is cool :)

Heya Tom, back in 50/90 world for a bit?

Allo! How's it going, Tom?

No idea! But "cradster" gets 1300 hits on Google.

I just wanna know how you got so many songs already and they sound so good?!? Keep on r.o.c.k. (ing) in the usa!!!

Thanks for all your thanks! I'm just sorry I don't have any songs for you to comment on yet. But I am close to finishing the monster I'm working on and then...
