BIO:

Got into guitar when I was 13 because of heavy metal, played in a thrash metal band for about a year back when I was 16, mucked around for two decades casually bashin' out Beatle tunes, etc, got back into guitar (acoustic) in a BIG way about a year and a half ago when I discovered Mississippi John Hurt and the other pre-war bluesmen. I just turned 40 years old and I'm lovin' playin' and makin' music more than EVER!

I can't read music and know zilch about music theory. When asked how he came up with his music, the late Mississippi John Hurt (my idol!) answered: "Well, sir, I just make it sound like I think it ought to." I love that answer!! That's my musical philosophy now, too: I just make music sound the way I think it ought to. :-)

I'll say right now that there's no way I'm gonna come even CLOSE to 50 songs! Time is the primary factor here: The more time I spend making music, the less time I spend with my wife and two beautiful daughters (2 and 4 years old). I was able to manage during FAWM 2011, but at times it was kinda stressful!! For the 2011 version of 50/90, I plan on making a few completely new tunes and tinkering with/re-doing some old ones. It'll be nice to get the creative juices flowin' again! Cheers!

Soundboard

I thought I'd venture over to your website. Its so well organized
unlike the one I use (Reverbnation). You are very talented, I hope to hear more from you as time permits!

thanks for the listens, and i need to sit down and listen to yours as well.
as to how i get thaat acoustic guitar sound, usually i'm playing a taylor 814- and I use the built in pickup (its a taylor thing called, i think, the 'expressions' system) and then also mic it with a shure sm57 or 58. then pan both tracks about 45 degrees each way, add a nice helping of reverb, and there ya go.. the mic'd track gives an acoustic throatiness and boom, while the pickup gives that crispness and detail in the high end.. hope that helps!

thanks for the info!

btw..... some good, good sounds... dlgraham @ blomand.net if you would like to collaborate on something.... yea, I know it's over...but I enjoy doing stuff. I only write lyrics ..usually on front end....David

Stage diving is ageless. :) Thank you for the very nice comments, Steever!

I'm gonna listen to a few more songs, but you now have me digging out my old Mississippi John Hurt albums. It's somewhat shameful to admit I haven't heard them in quite a while.

I was very glad to read your comment and I`d like to thank you a lot for the kind words...

Hey Deaf Steever, I have been enjoying in your songs, dropping by and sometimes commenting on them. I do not know, of course, if you are open to collaborations or not, but if so, I`d love to invite you to have a (short) look on some of my lyrics and I`d look very forward to a possible collab in the case you find anything you eventually like...
kind regards

Hi Thanks for the comments, I have been enjoying listening to your blues here so it is very much appreciated to have your feedback on mine. The guitar is a donmo tricone, the body is made out of reclaimed 50 year old corrugated iron and it does have very unique sound somwhere between a vintage single cone and stye 1 tricone. More honk than the tricone but more sustain than a single cone.

Hi! Thanks for the comments and the mention of Peter Broderick's album "Home". I'm listening to it right now and really enjoying it. Definitely an album I will come back to many times.

Thanks so much for comments on "hidden messages!" I was planning to totally revamp the arrangement because of its "space-y" sound but maybe I won't do anything so drastic now. The main thing that bothers me is that the harmonies get lost. I'll do some mild tweaking :-)

Thanks for listening and commenting on It's A Beautiful Day!

hi Deaf Steever, re: "Never Saying", well after your comment, i contacted my friend Caroline (check her out btw: http://carobridges.bandcamp.com/ ) and asked her to sing on "Never Saying", and she suggested we work out a duet version with harmonies etc, so that's now going to happen, and i'll be able to perform it live at events that Caroline comes along to, and it wouldn't have been possible without your feedback, so i just wanted to let you know, once i've got a recording of us doing our duet version, i'll make sure you're aware. Thanks! :-)

Awesome! Glad I could help. I really look forward to hearing it. I think it'll sound fantastic!

Thanks very much for your comments on my songs, especially "My Love's in Charleston." I'd be honored to do a collab with you any time and I feel so honored to receive such great compliments from someone so talented!

thank you for leaving such a wonderful comment on my song!! :)

Comment by Deaf Steever
My pleasure! A lovely tune. I just added it to the Recommended Track message thread. Cheers!

Thanks for the comment on Running Out of Steam. Glad you enjoyed it. Always nice to be likened to Syd Barrett.

Exactly what I was talking about! Very nice!

Thanks for the comment, friend. We're getting such nice feedback on that song--it's really gratifying.

Thank you for your comments! It's heartenin' to know people like what I'm turning out :D. I love YOUR stuff- the Backyard Blues comes up every so often and I'm going to pull it out again in a minute to bake to!

Please, write more :).

You really want to add vocals to that track? Please do. Let me know if you want any tracks in particular from me.

Comment by Deaf Steever
I'll take another few listens to it and see if anything of substance (vocal-wise) results. :-)

Congrats on the first place in the KVR contest!

any tunes is better than no tunes-- i was just listening to some of your Fawm tunes, and I liked 'em!

Welcome aboard, fellow KVRian!! Have a great event!

Hey howdy.

Comment by Deaf Steever
Hey! Nice to see ya here!

I like our bio, its gives me hope for myself LOL. You should do collaborations like "The Exploding mary Collecting" said. And remeber its just have fun :V).

Comment by Deaf Steever
I'm looking forward to it! A chance to make some new songs, tinker with old ones, etc. Shall be fun! :-)

one good way to boost that song count is-- collaborations!!!
glad to see that you've joined the fray...

Comment by Deaf Steever
Yeah, collaborations are alway fun! We'll see. Lack of time is the reason I have no intention of shooting for 50 tunes, however!

Couldn't resist, could you? It's addictive, I tell you.

Comment by Deaf Steever
Yeah! There's absolutely no chance in hell that I'll make anything close to 50 songs!! But perhaps around 8 tunes or so? :-)
