BIO:

This year i have been tested to some extent with some pretty robust criticism. I take a fairly "sticks and stones" attitude to this, but it has been colourful to say the least, and of course it all has its influences in my songwriting.

I'm finished on the 5090 forums for this year, and i'm going to be trying my hand at the November Solo Album Month challenge at http://www.nasoalmo.org - why not join me there?

Gonna make another attempt to respond to some "after 50/90 Comments"
On Devil Sent 'er Back, Yeah, it's pretty much tongue in cheek and not to be taken too seriously. .
Good to see you back some on the day to day 50/90. It pretty much died when you left.
Thanks for the comment

Thanks for your recent comments! And thanks for the CD which arrived today. I am finally sorting out my track list this evening :-)

Thanks for the comments! Have to say that I agree with you on not liking the carrot/stick part of the first stanza of "I'm Really Hungry", but I was basing it on Matthew 25:31-49 which is totally a carrot/stick scripture. Now and then you run into parables like that. I softened it quite a bit - because I agree the message was in how to act - but still felt the need to honor the original passage with that first stanza. Your thoughtful comments are a big part of why I'm glad I took part in 50/90. Thank you!

Yay, Calum! Look forward to seeing you in the hangout on Sunday :)

Hi Calum, thanks for the comments on "The Last Wolf" - I spotted Wyatt's lyrics early on, and was surprised they weren't snaffled by someone else. Glad you thought the treatment was good, as you said, a simple but brutal story, required a straightforward telling.

Thank you for listening and commenting on my collaboration with Mike on Casino Ghost Calum. It was fun to create music to something I've never experienced in my life :)

Hi Calum, sent you an email :)

Anyway, my work and travel and life have conspired to take the past couple months and looking to take a bit more before through but I was able to pop in tonight and saw your comments. Calum, truely, thank you for your kind words. I've been a bit down on myself lately (well, more than usual) and while I expect it is mostly due to so much traveling and never quite catching up on sleep, but your words are such a pick up and lifted my spirits so much, I just had to stop by and let you know I appreciate it. I will be back to listen, but felt I needed to stop by and say hi, and thanks.
Billy

Thank you very much Calum for your beautiful comment on It's okay to cry. Val is truly amazing! I love this song so much! So happy you like it too :)

"""""""". I think fewer strings means more skill required tbh!""""""""""

Fewer strings---more skill???!!!-----Man, I've been going the wrong way then!!!
That would mean, I'd have to look into a 12 string guitar then!! :)
I'll see what Ebay's got.

Hey, thanks much, man! I think I haven't really been active in the community this year (ironic though that is), and that's probably a bit of it.

Thank you Calum for listening and commenting on my collaboration with Billy Not afraid to sing. Yes it was a surprise for me to hear Billy playing the piano and to listen to his voice, I think it was first time for both Billy playing and Billy speaking and I really enjoyed listening to his work. It is amazing for me to hear how my lyrics came to life with Billy's interpretation. Thank you for your support :)

Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment on "Mothership", Calum. I get what you're saying about it chopping and changing, but that was my intention. It was my attempt to convey a hustle and bustle of activity within the CHM storyline, as well as the idea of the message being garbled. ;)

It'll probably get some more work done to try to smooth the transitions a little before I'm finished with it.

Glad my "week13" made you smile. It was written with a smile. It formed very quickly after reading your challenge post and I decided to capture it. Thanks for all you do to keep this event running. Good luck with your music making!

What a nice surprise, Calum! Thanks a lot! The music is really very, very beautiful, dynamic and very memorable and the performance and vocal are excellent! I love it all and especially the rythm/music of each first two lines of each verse, simply great! I`d say British Pop at its best, wonderful! I also love the tag „on my two souls“ at the end… Thank you for this wonderful song!
By the way, if you would like the song to appear „topically“, I could delete the former publication so that you could re-post it again, otherwise we can leave it like that… to me, it makes no difference, so it is up to you…

Thanks for the comments on "Is there any hope" Calum and thanks for mentioning it in the forums, It was great experience working on it with Nadia, Dawn and Darci

Thanks for working your way through my Dr Who epic :)
Good points on the suspect canonicity of a number of them. I have my own doubts, but as you say, that would have left me short of 50. In fairness Rosita was a companion, just not of the real Doctor, and Lady de Souza really, really should have had a season as a companion...So I've added a footnote to the liner notes just to be on the safe side!

Thanks Calum, I really appreciate your comments, I've you're ever up for a collab, it doesn't have to be country if you read it another way.

Hello Calum. Thank you so much for listening and commenting on Is there hope. And thank you for the amazing opportunity to hear your songs. Your songwriting is very special and unique. It's a true pleasure commenting on your work!

thanks for your supportive thoughts (as always) on that forum thread..... :)

Glad you got into I Still Feel! I like it but need to take a break form it, too much arranging and listening to it.

I can imagine if you are super busy and don't have time for them, I gave them to you with only 10 days remaining, so no worries if you can't use 'em! Good luck on 5090!

Allloooo! :D

Just in case you don't check your email... I gave you some song lyrics. :D

Thank you again for your amazing comments on my music Calum. Here is updated demo for Is there any hope in case you get a chance to listen to it: http://fiftyninety.fawmers.org/songs/10625

Nadia

Hi Calum

Thank you for comment on my song What to Say. Means a lot coming from you. Wish you had time, but I will see if musicsongwriter is interested!

Calum, thank you for your comments on my songs. ;) As you know, I'm in Canada at the moment, and pretty much on the move, so there's not a lot of opportunity yet to listen to others' work. When I'm back in Delft at the end of September, I look forward to doing that, though.

Hi Calum, good to see you again, come on, jump in on the Wicked Songs project, you will be a big miss if we get to the end and you are not there!!!! Thanks for the kind comments, now if I could play as well as you and some other's that I listen too I would be really happy.

Hi Calum, thanks for the kind comments on Donna's song, it was great fun doing it, in the pub it would be everyone exept me! :)

Hi Calum, So glad to hear your comments on "My Love's In Charleston," especially re: the harmonica. the only place where I think it fits is in the instrumental section but I didn't want it to come out of nowhere so I added it in other parts. I am prejudiced against flutes (plus I am no flautist) so maybe I'll try something out on keyboard. And strip down the harmonies a bit too, thanks SO much, this is the kind of stuff I need to hear!

Hey.. thank you :D Yes it is Kravitz.. I did realise but was in a post nights daze !

Let me know if you are up for that collab

Thanks for your feedback.

My polka is related to the popular Clarinet Polka, probably of Austrian origin. At times the melody resembles yodelling, something for which the Swiss are more renowned than their Austrian neighbors.

I listened to a sample of Peter Pratt's Polka; you're right, there seem to have been considerable stylistical differences between different regions and nationalities. I guess the polka spread throughout the world much like the waltz. I know interesting things happened to polka in Brazil.

Horos 1 is based on O horos tou Zalongou, a really really ancient song of Greek origin. I believe today the rhythm, usually 7/8 in our notation system, (or circle dance) is known as kalamatianos. But I'm not an expert...

Thank you so much for your fantastic comments on my music and collaborations Calum. Your opinion is very special to me. I absolutely love your music, your playing and your vocals. Thank you so much for your support. Have a great Sunday.

Sending you a link to my 10-15 sec Exquisite sample. I'm just technically incompetent enough not to know if it will work, so let me know and then I'll send my minute!

Thanks for giving my song music Calum. I love the barbershop treatment, sounds like it should be the intro to a TV show. "Yes, that's right, your story needs telling and this week we are putting the spotlight on... " :D The changes are all more than OK, thanks again.

Hi Calum,
Thank you for your comments on A Dove on the Windowsill. If I can find music for it, it will definitely be a girl singing it...me, lol :)

Picked up Another Side... today. Great album. I'd have to say that One hit Wonder, Modern Man, and The Rest of our Lives are my favorites. Love the 12-string work. Love the stripped down performances on the album. If felt like I was getting a private Calum show in my living room. Awesome work, sir!

Hi Calum, i have added you as a collab. I am in transit for the next 48 hours but feel free to change/ rearrange it as needed. Thanks for jumping in

Hi Calum, I haven't been on here for ages, but I just quickly logged in and checked my comments and noticed yours about my Bible verse song :) Thankyou for the comment, I think it's great that you make sure you do your own research on the verses and such. I, as a Christian, definitly believe that context is very improtant in understanding the Bible (and that reading different translations is also very important, as I sure don't understand Greek and Hebrew to be able to read the it in its original languages). Though I must admit, I am a bit slack on doing the research as much as I should. I'm not so sure myself about the KJV being accurate/inaccurate, as I've heard lots of different views/opinions from different people, I just used it mostly in that song because I didn't want to infringe on any copyrights, which other translations have. I'll definitly take your constructive critisisms into account when I revisit the song :) Thank you again :)

Hey Calum, I meant to thank you for No Way Home - it definitely pushed me in a different direction. It was an excellent lyric, and tremendous fun to work with.

Thanks for the extra comment on the Letter, Calum :) Nice to know its still effective past the first listen

Thank you Calum, you are very kind :)

Hi Calum,
thanks a lot for having taken the time and for the very kind, detailed response. The basic problem of my lyrics (and I suppose that is also the reason why they often tend to get wordy and poetic) is that I had been writing poems for more than 10 years before I started to write lyrics, so I am afraid these are still some remnants from that time…
For some reason (and I do not know now actually why) I thought „two souls“ would suit a female singer… However, now after you mentioned it and after having read it again, I think it could also suit a male singer as well – as you said about duality, why not? You can work with these lyrics as you like – including altering them or deleting whole parts of them, just feel free to do whatever you regard as necessary… and I`d look very forward to it…

Thank you Calum, I don't normally sing in the demos, I send to my collaborators my rough demos to give them an idea how the lyrics might kinda sound. I wish I had a good voice... I love your vocals soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much!

Hey Calum, I have been listing to your songs and commenting on some of them from time to time. Now I also read your bio and the part concerning collabs... Well, I am only a lyricist and I do not know if you were eventually interested also in such a collaboration... Anyway, if you like and if you can afford the time, I`d love to invite you to have a look at some of my lyrics and if there is anything you think you could eventually use, I will look very, very forward to a possible collab...

PS: Should you get "lost" in the quantity of lyrics, if you like at request I could also suggest a few of that I think they could suit your style...

Kind regards

Ha - the Americanisms don't bother me that much; it was just a minor niggle.

Yeh, throw me in for I Still Feel.

Hiya :)
Let's collab it up please. How you wanna do this?

Winner  RC
RC's picture

I'd say I'm definitely going to do it, so if that's the protocol for "reserving" a collab, do it. Although I think I may have to change "car park" to "parking lot"... I don't know if I can sell the Anglicism there. ;-)

FWIW - regardless of negativity elsewhere, I think you are doing some of the best stuff I've heard from you, and indeed some of the best stuff around during this 50/90. The energy you put into stuff is incredibly enjoyable and I've had a couple of your songs going round my head a few days after listening.

Of course, if you don't feel like writing, you don't feel like writing (I'm more into rollerskating at the moment :P ), but, yeah, y'know...

Thanks Calum for the comment a while back on 'Say it to my face.' Yes... unfortunately most of us have had those types of situations...
