BLOGGERY (Bio stuff at the bottom)
23 September FINAL: I officially bow out. I'll try to lsiten and comment a bit more, next couple of days, but any new music,...no. Well, didn't make the 50 but satisfied with the 37 that appeared, some of which are genuine keepers and others of which will get worked on. Some plans are always destined to end in chaos, which seems to be the story of my life at present. Thank you one and all.
22 September update: day #whatever of this wretched disease. Last two days, shipping Macci the Dog via car to St Arnaud (about 500km) to transfer to daughter--it's the half-way point!--then back again today. Remarkably, one new song appeared and is up. That will finish shortly because we lurch into renovations and although there's be not shortage of song materials, there won't be time before 5090 ends. So I guess I'm very close to my final output. Still, we'll continue!
17 September update: day #5 of cold/flu misery. Yes I HAD my shots, so I suppose if I hadn't I'd now be dead dead dead instead of only half. But still. Trying to finish backlog in moments of lucidity. Or madness, take your pick...
11 September update: trying to get through the backlog as my brain turns to frozen mush trying to complete a Chinese visa application. So far 3 songs from 5090 have been gtried out in public: Byron Bay (guaranteed to empty the room quickly), Raining on the Dog and Me which strikes the right chord, it seems, and Trams That Can't Turn Right which goes down a storm.
3 September update: Home again, nothing new, trying to get some listening and some writing done between now and 21 Sep, when I have to totally stop. I will do my best to get the colabs done whatever.
24 August update: Vanished for 10 days. I will have laptop and small keyboard but whether anything gets done is another thing...
16 August update. Ho hum. Another major financial session and shunting/rearranging funds to buffer against the coming storms. Not much room or time BUT
I'm now trying to ram new stuff out for later working because freedom to do it will end 21 September for a couple of months as we have to fire up on renovation work to keep ordinary income coming, and there's a week or 10 days which will vanish before that! Onwards and...
8 August update
So much for intentions. Succesful gig Sunday=warm glow +$$$. At least I still have $$$, as the warm glow lasted until mail pickup on Monday which precipitated Major Crisis #1. Closely followed by #2 as the accounting computer died unexpectedly. On Tuesday morning was crisis #3. My blood pressure is back to the point where I can remove the blue filters from my bllodshot eyes and we'll try again.
4 Aug update
Sizeable (all-day) paid gig tomorrow, then I can get back to recording, writing and commenting.
31 July 2018 update:
I was able to start on 13 July but stop:start it is!. Currently practising for a significant gig as one of the three "Those Village Minstrels" though in my case I wonder if "idiot" would be better...covers mainly but it pays real money, for once. The Elvensong series is moving along, there are a couple of collabs under way but I'm distracted. I've finally picked up the violin again, disregarding Deborah's giggles.
23 June 2018 update: Due to family wedding in Brisbane and other things, I can't actually start 5090 until mid July. I'll be in and out with gaps of a couple of weeks because of work (in my "new" incarnation of rental property renovator, which gives us our current living). But having missed msot of FAWM 2018, and with even more of FAWM 2019 likely to disappear, it's 5090 I'll have to concentrate on! Short situational report: the "Ngurunderi" opera, delayed in 2017 following shock resignation and disappearance of producer/CEO/music director, now appears dead in the water through political cowardice. Who knows what the future is there--it will get produced eventually but I'm unlikely to still be alive to see it. I try to reign in my despair and bitterness--worse things have happened in my life but not many. Also: deaths of close friends, family disasters, a whole lot of miseries but bright spots too. Mrs Tadpole has passed the magic 5-year post-BC point in reasonable health--she's even started mild skiing again. Thanks for large mercies. I'm back to writing at least some music, my little band of Patrons at patreon.com/timfatchen have made it possible to keep the aging and failing equipment up as well as encouraging me to keep going, and there have been some strange but...interesting... exercises including near-amputation of a finger by the kitchen sink and the wholly strange Indian Pacific Wheel Race across the empty Nullarbor. For now, it's winter, and there's no shortage of material both serious and satirical to work with. But I've missed the serious listening and interaction of FAWM. So now, we'll move in a smaller but longer stage, right? Right!
I KNOW I was here 9 years ago, in 2009! I've got the archive and opera to prove it! Anyway, I followed @Hummingbird in. 2016 & 2017 were pretty dire, and I missed most of FAWM2018, so it's leaping into 5090 for me this year, although I'm going to be erratic in presence and absence, with fortnight absences starting right now!.
