Learned to play guitar in 1980 when I was a freshman in high school. Didn't take a lots of lessons after that, which I regret, but I didnt know I needed more lessons. I was a kid. I realized later I would have been a much better musician had I invested the time in theory. I didn't get to theory until I was in my thirties. I realized learning theory opened up some things for me but also noticed that I naturally understood some of these concepts.
While I was young I mostly wrote and performed my own songs, today I am learning and performing other peoples songs. Both are fun, however I want to get back to writing. When I was young I had so much time and everything (good and bad) inspired me! Today I feel like I have no time at all and hardly any inspiration. I have been trying to carve out more and more space for music and its been working.
My focus now is to continue performing and never let that go by the wayside again. I also want to get back to writing original songs.
