Hey hey, it's Kanttila and this year LET'S MAKE IT TO 50 BABYEE.
I'm a 23 year old musical dude from Northern Ontario who makes One Man Band music in the basement. I play guitar, drums & bass and...someone had to sing and write lyrics for my music so I do that also. I started recording music in the summer of 2016 and I've so far made 19 albums. My idea is prolific over perfect. I started recording with a PS2 Rockband mic, which I used for far too long, and finally upgraded to a Blue Yeti recently. I keep it fairly simple, I'm about making stuff and expressing my life in music more than making something that sounds great.
This year is my 4th 50/90! My goal this year is to make my 20th album. I have had more quality control on my music lately and released a lot less. I want to loosen up for 50/90 and see if I can make it to 50 songs and pick from the best for a good album. I haven't tried to make it to 50 songs since 2017 but this year I want to give it a try and aim to be prolific and ease up on my self critic.
My musical journey began 11 years ago when I listened to KISS' Psycho Circus album and my extreme passion for music and obsession over bands was set off. AC/DC songs taught me guitar, Metallica leveled it up and everything came together when I learnt what the Blues Scale was 4 years into playing guitar. I'm a guy that learnt to play from TABs after all. Two albums that got me to make music were Bob Dylan's Highway 61 Revisited and Sonic Youth's Daydream Nation. Both showed me what music and expression could be and it was enough to get me writing lyrics and then figuring out I can do my own recordings. I take very heavy inspiration from J-Pop also, which is the majority of what I normally listen to day to day. I love Utada Hikaru, Seiko Oomori, BiSH, BAND-MAID, Yui, Perfume, DAOKO, anime songs etc. I wish I could bring that into my music more but my inspiration in that regard is more abstract. Anime is a great inspiration and with getting into Gundam this year I'm in a new phase of watching shows again so that's sure to reflect on my music.
My idea is to make fast, urgent and fun Rock 'n Roll. Message me if you want a guitar solo on your track, I love to play them. and I'm down for collabs where we sing together on the track or something. I like that sort of collab instead of turning lyrics to music or vise versa.
