Alex von Gestern means Alex of Yesterday
I never wanted to do the exercises or famous songs my guitar teacher told me to do.
I guess it never was my cup of tea covering these already written songs or doing some finger exercises.
Instead I just noodled around with my bare knowledge of basic guitar strumming: powerchords. Over time I began to "expand" these simple chords by mirroring the positions of the fingers or doing other unconventional things with the finger position you normally wouldn't do in punk rock (the music I firstly wanted to imitate).
I improvised a lot at that time (ca. 2010-11), singing some shenanigangs at the get go as soon as I hit record.
Some time later I started writing real songs with a set structure and lyrics.
Sooner or later I more or less quit the experimentation of earlier stuff that was probably strongly influenced by the sound of Sonic Youth and alike and moved to a more singer- songwriter take on musicmaking still doing some experimentation here and there.
Eventually I got cubase and a midi-keyboard and started incorporating some synths and artifical drums to my music.
Aside from my solo efforts I'm in a band and have multiple ongoing music projects with some pals, singing, playing the bass or the guitar.
All my lyrics are in German. It's my native language and to me at least it would be strange to sing in another language. I also can articulate myself much better in German and it seems much more natural to me, so I guess that's not going to change :P
I'm using:
E-Guitar/Western Guitar
E-Bass
Midi Controller
My strange voice
Cubase
