Cathy Come Home
Post date:
Liner Notes:
This was about a 10 minute write this evening after the title 'Cathy Come Home' popped into my head.
It switches between 3rd person in the early verses and first person later on. Not sure if that's impactful and ok?
When I was singing it to myself I had an idea that it could have a bit of a reggae feel to it?
Lyrics:
Cathy Come Home
(Verse 1)
Well, there were arguments about so many things
They seem so unimportant now
Which boys she chose to spend time with
Whether she played her music too loud
(Verse 1)
Now there are posters stuck on walls and lampposts
Asking where is Cathy now?
No-one’s seen her for seven days
We miss her playing her music loud
(Chorus)
Cathy come home
Cathy come home
All is forgiven
We’re so sorry
Please, Cathy just come home
(Verse 3)
There are always arguments about stupid things
It doesn’t mean we don’t love you
We shouldn’t try to influence the friends you choose
But these are things that parents do
(Verse 4)
Now there are posters stuck on walls and lampposts
Asking where is our Cathy now?
No-one’s seen you for seven days
We miss you playing your music loud
(Chorus)
Cathy come home
Cathy come home
All is forgiven
We’re so sorry
Please, Cathy just come home
(Outro – slower)
Please, Cathy just come home
Cathy, come home

Comments
Powerful write. Too many people just disappear.
These are very strong and well-written lyrics. They go right to the heart. PS It was made in 1966 but were you at all thinking of the Ken Loach BBC play 'Cathy Come Home'
