A Small Thing

Liner Notes:

I'd do a full recording of this song, but the cat interruption is the best part, and this gives a general idea.

Lyrics:

You paint the trim and the wall looks wrong
You feel the calm but you smell the storm
The sky is yellow funnel cake
Helluva time to decorate
Butterflies gone fractal, dominoes that spiral
And you’re doing all you can to keep from going viral
Lining up the columns on your taxes
It’s hard to hang a picture when the earth is off its axis

When the going gets tough, the tough get dressed
Don’t try too hard, though, more is less
Just show all the truth that fits
Brevity is the soul of wit
And lingerie, now where was I?
Getting a picture, it’s kinda fuzzy
Trying to solve life’s mysteries
With just a scalpel and a rhyming dictionary

How do you know what to keep and what to lose?
A song is such a small thing and you have to choose

Do you need a mic? Do you need a stage?
Who’s on the other side of the page
No more distance to complete
Just dirt under your naked feet
You can’t read stars in summer daylight
Taking three lefts to make each right
Painting yourself into a corner
A little dark might be good for you

How do you know what to keep and what to lose?
A life is such a small thing and you have to choose

Please keep your comments respectful, honest, and constructive. Please focus on the song and not the demo.

Ha - I needed that. Made me laugh out loud!

"Trying to solve life’s mysteries / With just a scalpel and a rhyming dictionary" would make a superb byline for a music blog...

of course, the cat is great... this is a really interesting song musically and lyrically tho, -many many really intriguing lines! one of those 'each line could generate its own song' kind of things!
