Hell Leo, I'm not afraid to say the word
So doing this ad hoc skirmish challenge: http://fiftyninety.fawmers.org/content/ad-hoc-challenge-1hr-max
I opted for Miller's Crossing, an old favorite.
The third line in the movie is a diatribe from Casper on the subject of Ethics. From the script:
“It's a wrong situation. It's gettin' so a
businessman can't expect no return from a fixed
fight. Now if you can't trust a fix, what can
you trust? For a good return you gotta go
bettin' on chance, and then you're back with
anarchy. Right back inna jungle. On account of
the breakdown of ethics. That's why ethics is
important. It's the grease makes us get along,
what separates us from the animals, beasts a
burden, beasts a prey. Ethics. Whereas Bernie
Bernheim is a horse of a different color ethics-
wise. As in, he ain't got any. He's stealin'
from me plain and simple."
And at exactly 3 minutes into the movie, Eddie Dane says
"And what the hell is that supposed to mean"
So, here you go
It’s the wrong situation, when you’re a businessman
You count on a return, without that, we all burn
anarchy, right back in the jungle, breaking down the rule
You’ve got to learn the system, this will be your school
But it’s getting so you can’t put your trust
In the fix you know, and that’s the breakdown of what’s just
When a guy won’t learn the ropes, it’s a horse of a different color
At that point what can you do, ethics-wise, you have to keep order
What the hell is that supposed to mean, what do you think you’re trying to say?
That we’re some kind of separate thing from beasts of burden, beasts of prey
And you claim some ethical scheme is going to change the course of the play
A lion thinks he’s every bit a king, killing the jackal that gets in his way
But to me you’re nothing more than another scavenger on the day
For all you’ve set yourself as a iron giant with feet of clay
That’s alright for an as you please, you’re welcome to stay
Along with the rest of these beasts of burden, beasts of prey
