Liner Notes:

I wrote this for the 503 Challenge. Just a bit of fun looking at that kind of error from another perspective

Lyrics:

An Error For You (An Incident For Me)

(Verse 1)
I was just getting ready to go home
You had to buy from our online store
It was five to four, you got a 503
Now I’m never getting out of the door

(Verse 2)
It’s been reported up to the top brass
And it’s been logged against my name
Case 9954, you got a 503
Now I’ve been landed in a world of pain

(Chorus)
You got an error, poor baby
Now you can’t buy that book about chi
But consider this for a moment
It’s an error for you but it’s an INCIDENT for me

(Verse 3)
I was just getting ready to go home
You had to buy from our online store
It was five to four, you got a 503
Now I’m never getting out of the door

(Verse 4)
I’m in trouble cos my wife’s on the warpath
We're supposed to see her folks at nine
Now it’s ten to eight, you got a 503
But it’s me who’s in the firing line

(Chorus)
You got an error, poor baby
Now you can’t buy that book about chi
But consider this for a moment
It’s an error for you but it’s an INCIDENT for me

(Spoken)
Turns out Darren deleted a file in the website directory
But he's now on holiday
In the Bahamas
The whole section of the site has to be recreated
And guess who that task's falling to?

(Chorus)
You got an error, poor baby
Now you can’t buy that book about chi
But consider this for a moment
It’s an error for you but it’s an INCIDENT for me

(Spoken)
My wife's texted me using a lot of exclamation marks
She's saying if I don't come home she's gonna take a sledgehammer to my priceless collection of Marvel figurines
And they've never even been out of their packaging

(Chorus)
You got an error, poor baby
Now you can’t buy that book about chi
But consider this for a moment
It’s an error for you but it’s an INCIDENT for me!

Oh my! This is how I often feel! Quirky pointed lyrics that sadly portray a true glimpse of the reality we face as we navigate technology and the online universe. I love the word play or error vs incident.

Not the Marvel figurines!!! Lol!! This is a very fun write and good storytelling. Almost sounds like a country song! Job on the line, marriage on the line, priceless you collection on the line... curse you, Darren!!!

Fun fact: I worked for a small org whose IT Director was named Darren, but he was extremely inept and often did more harm than good. He realized he didn't know how to update their website content, so I spent my weekend doing even though I had NOTHING to do with IT. He also used to leave our new passwords on post-it notes tacked to our monitors if we weren't at our desk. Yeah. Genius. I left pretty quickly.

this is so good! I love the playfulness with the numbers. details inserted like In the Bahamas and the Marvel bit are funny. great subject for a song and you tell a vivid story and paint a colourful character - nice write indeed

So much this. Just goes to show how differently we view events. Douglas Adams joked that the one thing we don't need is a sense of perspective, but we really do.

"And they've never even been out of their packaging" could only have been written by a master of nerd culture. Bravo.

And as for Darren? That guy needs a talking to.

I too loved the word play with error vs incident. The spoken part with the Marvel figurines is so funny. I love the personality here. Great write!
