Liner Notes:

Thank you @Kristi for another great lyric! I felt uplifted just reading them Smile

I was aiming for a Motown/60s soul vibe with this one. Simple, fun, happy, just like the words. Hope you enjoy!

Lyrics:

When I wake
I roll up my sleeves
There's a million
Tales to weave

When you smile
You strike a match
My heart lights up
In a flash

Nothing could be better
Than what we do
We’re simple, we’re honest
We've got our own set of rules
Life comes at us hard
But here we are
Nothing could better
For two old fools

We might even try
To scuba dive
Or step it up
And hang glide

Every day is ours
To turn inside out
We keep the sun
Out of the clouds

Nothing could be better
Than what we do
We’re simple, we’re honest
We've got our own set of rules
Life comes at us hard
But here we are
Nothing could better
For two old fools

I’m lucky to be riding down this road with you
The radio is playing all our favorite tunes
Not going anywhere but everywhere
We send a little love thru the air

I knew when I first read this lyric that it was a hit in the making!
Dave did a wonderful job at bringing it to "L"ife (capital L)
Great great collab!!!

Oh you both nailed this! I love the upbeat feel to the lyrics and the arrangement added some magic to them. You nailed that 60s vibe, this was a joy to listen to!

I love the chorus!! It's so catchy with a great message.
"We've got our own set of rules
Life comes at us hard
But here we are" Amen!! Life can chew you up and spit you out, so you might as well spend it with someone that "gets" you and makes it all better! Guitar is killer. Tambourine is a great touch--loving that. Do you play a brass instrument, David? They always sound so good in your songs. The fading out at the end sends the listener the message that those good vibes will go on and on and on!
Great collab Kristi & David!! I listened first thing this morning with my cup of coffee...it's going to be a good day!

the opening sounds more like george harrison than motown, but when you start singing we are smack dab in detroit, excellent homage to motown,

Oh, wow! You totally captured the sound. Feels like I’m back in my happy, carefree childhood carrying my transistor radio with me everywhere! Ah….

wow, I love this!! great lyric, great melody, great production choices, and yeah, I'm hearing that harrison/spector 'all things must pass' thing for sure as well. Great great work! love it!

I grew up on Motown, so really enjoyed this. LOVE the horns. LOVE them!! You really have that down.

Great lyrics, great arrangement, great vocal.

Very nice collaboration, you guys!

Ooh David! I’m really really liking your vocal style in this one. You’re quite the musical chameleon! Snap. I was pleased to see another Kristi/Taro collab on the list! You absolutely smashed this one out of the park. Motown-tastic. Really hoping you’ll venture out to Bexleyheath for an open mic one eve…

So this is just such an upbeat, celebratory song! Your vocals are dynamite and those horns have so much personality. Great delivery of that bridge too! You took my words beyond anything I could imagine for those lines! Thanks again, David!

You have definitely captured the spirit of the 60s and Motown feel with this. The lyrics are so richly expressed through the arrangement. The chorus, by the way, is where I felt "it" the most; that good time feeling I get when listening to my favorite Motor City tunes. I love this song. Wonderful collaboration.

This is totally F.A.B! An utter joy to hear...where's the dance floor? Right...well the kitchen will have to do then...press play again!

Wow, this does a wonderful job. I'm less familiar with Motown, more of the MacCartney filtered stuff The Beatles did on records like... Rubber Soul? Or is it more Revolver? I'm thinking of Got To Get You Into My Life, aren't I? And it is just so warm and affirmative and NICE. In a good way. The backing is all spot on, not as pastiche, but on its own terms. Love the vocal performance, this is one of your strongest I think. And the words are really nice too. A great collaboration, hope you do more.
