Better

Better

Liner Notes:

This is one of those "Tom sends guitars, Elaine sings, both of us wish there were more hours in the day" songs that 50/90 is so lovely about Smile

Lyrics:

can she imagine
another life that's better than
the tablecloth, the raisin bran
the things she can imagine

drip back to the pot
shake like tempests in a cup
wake up in a saucer
looking down is looking up now

fact met fancy in a craigslist ad
can we imagine better than, than she imagined
crawl back into the box
dissolve like cheerios in milk
the bowl is yellow, with a smiling sun
the spoon is on the table

and we say, the sky is still as blue
she turns, looks through the window too

can she imagine
another life that's better than
the cellar floor, the attic fan
the things she can imagine

drip back into the pot
shake like tempests in a cup
wake up in a saucer
looking down looking up

and we say, the sky is still as blue
she turns, looks through the window too

tomatoes in a coffee can
a split rail fence
a garbage man
she looks through the window
maybe what we say is true

"fact met fancy in a craigslist ad" is a really neat line! I liked the instrumentation and melody, and the lyrics really caught my ear with a lot of vivid, specific images. Nice job!

delightful romp in consideration of lifes possibilities..whether or not there are any. fun melodic rock with many outstanding lines popping out of a top shelf lyric.

Loving the fanciful meets power pop collab here. Trippy guitar work and lyrics. Such a fun listen, thanks!

"Looking down is looking up now" is such a line for these topsy turvy times. And what a masterclass in concision this is: in and out in under two minutes thirty, leaving us wondering if we can imagine "better than" as well...

Well done! So Chad & Jeremy (that's my response when I'm trying to convey that sound I'm familiar with and really dig).

I love this in every level- so many killer lines that are ineffably 'right' for this elliptical, odd-yet-great ode! ('wake up in a saucer, looking down is looking up now, 'fact met fancy in a craigslist ad', and on and on) . Great guitar work too and the whole thing hangs together well!
