Liner Notes:

A quick skirmish lyric (prompt was: happy song - as in a song that is happy, positive in message and not negative or sad) written at La Guardia airport waiting for a flight. Posting it here from the plane before take-off. Not a true story at all, and after I finished it got to thinking that it’s maybe not what I might call a truly “happy” lyric but it’s close. I may put music to this once I’m back home.

Lyrics:

V1:
A couple shows, in a couple bars
Dirty streets, too many cars
Early mornings, later nights
Not much time to see the sites

Thinking of you every day
Wish I hadn’t gone away
This city life is not for me
When the job is over, time to flee

CH:
Flying Home to You
Riding on this pillow made of clouds
In the sky so blue
Flying Home to You
The trip is over no more city crowds
On the bustling avenue
Flying Home to You

V1:
Sleeping in this single bed
Hotel pillows rock my head
Hard to fall asleep like this
Missing your sweet goodnight kiss

Lunch with old friends had some fun
Sharing stories one by one
From the present to the past
But those old tales aren’t meant to last

CH:
Flying Home to You
Riding on this pillow made of clouds
In the sky so blue
Flying Home to You
The trip is over no more city crowds
On the bustling avenue
Flying Home to You

This is a really great take on the prompt, @tjeff. And probably very appropriate given that you are travelling right now (have a safe flight!). For some reason I was hearing the Kid Rock/Sheryl Crow duet in my head as I read these lyrics. They would fit that sort of song (minus the duet part). This is a really great write!

It is a happy song, longing and yearning for home and love. Very nice.

This does work as a happy song. Sure there is longing but ultimately there is joy in the returning home, I love the line "Flying Home to You / Riding on this pillow made of clouds" that's great image. Really nice skirmish!
