Liner Notes:

This is a strange one, both lyric and music. I'm not really sure what the lyric is specifically 'about' except that I saw a stream of a very interesting one-person show (Russel Brand riffing on Shakespeare and his own life, etc) that got me thinking about buried childhood traumas, ghosts, etc. I was playing a guitar that was tuned in DADGAD tuning, and came up with this. Meant to record more properly, but decided to try the iPhone music memos>garageband thing again. For some reason, this time (unlike when I've used it before) my garageband on my iPhone wouldn't let me add a vocal track unless I disconnected the headphones, and as the speaker and mic are right next to each other there was feedback galore. Did some eq and echo to get rid of some of that but its still a strange sounding lo-fi recording. ALso came up with a third verse just improvised on the spot, not sure how good it is , or the whole song. Not one of my better ones, (or maybe it is, who knows?) I think, but, hey, its another song.

Lyrics:

You thought those ghosts were under control
Last they were here, you were a tadpole
The spells that worked back in the day
They seemed like iron, not paper mache

Maybe its time to let those ghosts in
Sooner or later they’ll slip under your skin

All those ghosts we tried to conceal
Most of the time, are no big deal
All those ghosts we tried to conceal
Most of the time are no big deal

Second incantation, same as the first
Will it be better, will it be worse
There’s a fly in the ointment, ghost in the machine
But there’s nothing here that you haven’t seen

Call those ghosts and all the spectral spirits
Don’t be afraid about who can hear it

All those ghosts we tried to conceal
Most of the time, are no big deal
All those ghosts we tried to conceal
Most of the time are no big deal

writing in code, what does it mean
craziest thing you've ever seen
you knew that spell like the back of your hand
right now you don't understand

Maybe its time to let those ghosts in
Sooner or later they’ll slip under your skin

All those ghosts we tried to conceal
Most of the time, are no big deal
All those ghosts we tried to conceal
Most of the time are no big deal

I'm actually liking that lo-fi guitar sound a lot.
Lovely ladder-like chord progression.
I like your lyrics and how they *almost* make sense, like a secret code that needs to be decyphered.
Nice work here.

you've got some great lines in this song. it's mad what you come up with in this challenge, it's very different to alot I've heard but I weirdly like it. nice one.

I love that chord progression! Psychedelic folk - must have something to do with the tuning. And I think these lyrics do mean something - at least they speak to me. I really connect with this one a lot.

Ghosts are always intriguing and we can make meaning out of what we think these ghosts are doing. Some have more impact than others. That's what I got out of it anyway. Great guitar sound and melody, especially in the chorus!

The recording strangeness works in this one's favour. at least as far as I'm concerned. It adds to the disturbing quality of the song. This is the musical equivalent of a Jeff VanderMeer novel (which won't make much sense unless you know his writing, I guess, but I can feel resonances).

Bonus points for the happy humming at the end. I like this one a lot.
