Cindy came up with this title phrase...I mentioned to her that I liked it and next thing I knew...Cindy had written this lyric...

Lyrics:

In the guitar of Robert Johnson
In the trumpet of Mr Armstrong
In the saxes of Charlie Parker
We knew lonely in a song

In the bass of Miles Mosley
In the blues harp of Junior Wells
In the slide of Elmore James
We were kept under a spell

This was how lonely sounded good
Throughout every neighborhood
We knew they all understood
This was how lonely sounded good

Bonnie Raitt
Sister Rosetta Tharpe
And of course Aretha
So many have played a part

In the piano of Ray Charles
In the trombone of Al Grey
In the drums of Casey Jones
We felt what they had to say

This was how lonely sounded good
Throughout every neighborhood
We knew they all understood
This was how lonely sounded good

This was how lonely sounded good
Throughout every neighborhood
We knew they all understood
This was how lonely sounded good

It's funny how sometimes one word or one phrase sparks a song. This one came fast and furious. I so love what you've done with it and I sense a few of these musicians are smiling big and loving this! Perfect!

Thank you for writing this Cindy and for such a nice response to the track!

I really like the idea of the title, it instantly made me wonder what the song would be about. And I was pleasantly surprised to see and hear that the lyric referred to many of the jazz & blues greats, for whom loneliness was at least part of what they were expressing in their music. Excellent musical setting to the words too, reminded me a bit of Dire Straits (and the song "Sultans of Swing" - while a lot different both musically and lyrically).

Enjoyed and commented on the original lyric! This is the perfect vocal and music for it! Nice one you two!

This is a bit like a sequel to In My Artists Dream, but with blues musicians! Really like this melancholy arrangement.

What a clever lyric. It really bringing out the connections made with music. I like the title and the music complements it really well. The vocal delivers it all with a smoothness and bluesy feel. Good music, good collab!
