Liner Notes:

I was given a songwriting prompt of 'bring an umbrella' and thought of Gene Kelly and the Sining' in the Rain movie sequence. It seemed such a positive clip and I wanted to write about it. A bit of Googling showed that the story that he was dancing in milk instead of water was not true but it does make for a good line and so I kept it in. However, it does seem to be accurate that he had 'flu while filming the dance sequence.

Lyrics:

Bring and umbrella they told Gene Kelly
You’ll be singin’ in the rain
Dancin’ in milk and leapin’ on a lamppost
Over and over again

And you danced for us
And you sang with all your heart
And you gave us hope
That maybe love was enough
Maybe love was enough

Even though you had influenza
You sang a happy refrain
Take care as when you pass the policeman
As you walk down the lane

And you danced for us
And you sang with all your heart
And you gave us hope
That love was enough
Oh love was enough

This is great! Oddly, Universal Studios told me that it was milk! Maybe they thought it sounded good. This reminds me of that time. Good! (btw, I know a lady who is now 95 and as a kid she took dancing lessons with Gene Kelly!)

I like the keys, the piano very much. Your melody works well. But it's your lyric that I like the best.
