Liner Notes:

I have a longtime friend that loves Trump and defends him over and over. Decided to write what I wish I could say to her. It wouldn't make any difference.

Lyrics:

When You Look at Him
© 2020 Cindy Prince

You are my friend
But I can't understand
Why you think Trump is great

Because in the end
All across this land
He's nothing but a dead weight

You are really nice
But you drank koolaid
Now you are too far gone

You are so kind
But the choices you've made
You don't see Trump as a con

Chorus
Why can't you see him as the asshole
The bully, the crook
What do you see when look at him?
Why can't you see his bigotry
His lack of empathy
And that he's a dimwit?

Bridge
You have to see him rattle on with no clue
And if you don't, what's wrong with you?

You only watch Fox
I am pretty certain
So you don't see what's real

You see only in your box
Won't look behind the curtain
And probably never will

Repeat chorus

These are sincere and heartfelt lyrics. I sympathise. I don't know what anyone can do to persuade people that they are being fooled.

"But you drank Koolaid" is very definitely what we see but what *they* see when they look at him is someone who is mean to all the sorts of people that they think are getting above themselves and need to be taken down a peg. He's a bully, and they know it, but for them, he's bullying people who deserve it.

I think it's important to understand why he appeals, and then focus on challenging those values by reflecting them back. Particularly at the evangelical Christian Trum supporters...

nice write- and yeah, I've been writing about this subject in a few songs. I know a few either die-hard T supporters, or 't-adjacent' and its a mystery. as headfirstonly mentions, tho, sometimes hate is more powerful then anything, and the fact that T hates the same people that these people seem to hate makes them overlook the million ways he's a horrible monstrosity.

I'm with you 100% Cindy in the absolute bewilderment that his followers to see through his fake persona - really good writing, you keep hitting the nail on the head throughout the lyric. Thanks for writing this!
