The Kid Who Never Gets It Wrong

Liner Notes:

It's definitely become more of a slog than fun as we near the end of the challenge, but I'm so close! And it feels so good to be finishing all these songs that I've had as half-baked ideas for years...

Lyrics:

Back in high school I pretended not to care
About the favored girl with straight As and straight hair
Everyone would get in line with heart shaped eyes
Until they realized that she wasn't so nice
And I'd let my mom console me by saying
When it's said and done I'd be successful someday
And they'd be working at the gas station like cool kids from her generation
Yeah, that was good enough for me

This isn't a song for the kid who never gets it wrong
This is a song for the rest of us

It turns out my mom was wrong
Through social media I watched my bully become
The person she was gonna be in parallel to me
And goddamn, she looks so happy
Here I am with nothing figured out
She's got a husband and family and a great big house
Exactly what she wanted is exactly what she got
Why can't I ever get what I want?

We have more fun this way
When we allow ourselves the room to make all our mistakes
And I'll keep raising my hand when I'm not sure what to say
Because that's what made me the person I am today
And for all that we know she isn't even happy
Always being right sounds like a prison if you ask me
And what if she finally fails when she hits 40 and she feels completely lost at sea?

This isn't a song for the kid who never gets it wrong
This is a song for the rest of us
This is a song for the best of us

Very good writing, 'this is a song for the best of us' is a great line. You have demonstrated something that so universal.
