Liner Notes:

Tim sez: I picked this up out of Liz's incredible lyric output. Looked good, but I had a lot of trouble getting tune/harmonies and I suspect I've self-plagiarised in a couple of spots. Ah well. And I need to clean up the production a bit. Would benefit from a bit more instrumentation but I forebore (this time) to add string pads. Later.

V1
a car passes by so slowly
its light broken by the old oak trees
reminds me of those past fall nights
when you would come surprise me

I’d wait, I'd wait by my front door
you’d run up fast, happily
that was then, and this is now
I guess
we weren’t meant
to be

C
my heart was so open
open like an ocean shore
open to your waves of want
when you came...
to my door

your heart started closing
closing like a season ends
closing when winds changed
and I needed more...
more than a friend

V2
you’d wrap your arms around me
we’d linger under the porch light
I’d ask you to come in for a bit
and you’d spend the whole night

we were the best of friends
and a little more sometimes
but when my love grew deep for you
you came here
and you said
goodbye

C
my heart was so open
open like an ocean shore
open to your waves of want
when you came...
to my door

your heart started closing
closing like a season ends
closing when winds changed
and I needed more...
more than a friend

INSTR

B
it's so hard to stay open
once a heart I loved has closed
but I still hope that it is you
in every car
on my road

C
my heart was so open
open like an ocean shore
open to your waves of want
when you came..
to my door

your heart started closing
closing like a season ends
closing when winds changed
and I needed more...
more than a friend
more than a friend
more than a friend

Really cool piano/vocals/lyrics. Melancholy. Well done!

the consistency of metaphor in the lyric lifts it above lyricism for its own sake to bring us unto the literal elements of old oak trees, the ocean's waves, and the closing of hearts and seasons. tims majestic yet intimate interpretation lays open the regret in the heart of the lover whose lover's heart has closed with the changing of the seasons.

Of COURSE I'm going to love Liz's lyrics--but your piano is what stands out to me on this one. Gorgeous!

This is a great song--wish I could come up with piano parts like that, and a really nice vocal.

Excellent piano sound and playing in the intro and throughout. The song itself is reminiscent of an English folk song, excellent melody, Good lyric, I especially like the chorus and "waves of want."

Those flowing piano lines bring out the yearning and melancholy in the lyric. I like the reaching feeling of the vocal melody. Really touching collaboration.

Very beautiful song and collaboration. Moving, poignant, flowing beautifully. Very memorable. I wouldn't change anything. It's gorgeous.

Beautiful melody on this, and the piano arrangement creates a terrific mood of melancholy that suits the lyric perfectly. I *could* hear strings swelling in behind to give a bit dynamic texture, but it works very well without.

Absolutely stunning lyric by Elizabeth given a lovely gentle melodic treatment here by Tim...
