Another fine seafaring lyric by @saltyjohn with music by @landlubber Smile

Lyrics:

We head for the Horn, sails tattered and torn
With a cargo of grain from the east
And the albatross glides under gunmetal skies
Over galloping white-capped seas

On deck the men struggle to handle the lines
Their fingers are numb with the cold
The ship pitches and yaws in the jaws of the storm
But the cargo’s secure in the hold

Oh, give us fair winds and following seas to carry us home swiftly, oh please
There’s a friendly tavern and pretty maidens waiting in Blighty for me

We crossed the equator with all canvas pulling
For the Doldrums had set us free
Then one morning came the call we were yearning
Land-ho! We’re home from the sea

The ship’s at the dock, we’ve unloaded the grain
The crew have gone shoreside, they’re free
But before very long I will set sail again
For I must answer the call of the sea

Oh, give us fair winds and following seas to carry us home swiftly, oh please
There’s a friendly tavern and pretty maidens waiting in Blighty for me

Oh, give us fair winds and following seas to carry us home swiftly, oh please
There’s a friendly tavern and pretty maidens waiting in Blighty for me

Oh, give us fair winds and following seas to carry us home swiftly, oh please
There’s a friendly tavern and pretty maidens waiting in Blighty for me

OK, now try and sing this after a couple of grogs.

Seriously, you get an A+ from me just for getting through the first verse without stumbling over the words.

I love a good sea shanty and this is A GREAT ONE!! Very, very enjoyable! Great lyrics and amazing performance that would have had me all tongue-tied!

I have to admit...it took a few goes to read/sing the words at that tempo without fluffing them...great words that they are from Saltyjohn...I'm so pleased you enjoyed it...thanks Jerry!

Lyrically and musically sounds like a seafaring tune for sure, and also reminds me a bit of The Pogues. I enjoyed listening!
